In Thomas' case, everything that happened to him as a result of the policies he now opposes was good. He's been repeatedly promoted above both his abilities and his temperment.

State and federal courts and legislatures (including SCOTUS) are continuously amending the 2nd Amendment. That's why the original wording is nothing but a fossil.
