Okay, I think you are a little confused. Medicare was a ponzi scheme from the moment it started. You only pay in 1% of your income into it. (and the employer matches 1%) So if you make $50K, you only have $1000 a year being paid into it. after 40 years, that's $40,000 you've put aside, assuming your income stays steady.
That could be wiped out in a month by cancer treatment.
The thing is, no matter if it's single payer, Medicare, Medicaid or Blue Cross. ALL MEDICAL PROGRAMS ARE SOCIALISM. You are either paying in more than you get out in a given year, or you are paying in more than you get out of it.

If you put everyone 45-50 and above on Medicare and charge them a premium a little above what senior's pay now a very good percentage of this new blood will be healthy and just might extend the life of Medicare.
Anyone under this age go back to underwriting policy's and if one has a pre existing condition and cannot get through underwriting each state should set up a high risk pool for the uninsurable.
