CDZ The Surprising Psychology of January 6

Trumpism is very much about maintaining and strengthening every unfair advantage white people have left. They being vengeful minded are certain all the people that got officially treated like garbage for 250 years are out for some payback.

Whites have no "unfair advantage".

Whites are widely and massively discriminated against.

I note that you cite "250 years of official treatment" and don't bother mentions the ever increasing efforts of the last few generations to help blacks (and browns).

That is not accurately or fairly discussing the issue. That is being part of the problem.
Trumpism has been a real joy to people who go through life being called selfish assholes. Suddenly here's this movement that tells you that your prejudices are patriotism and your fears are justified.

Wanting to NOT be discriminated against, or having some issue with rapid demographic shift is not a "prejudice".
If you don't want people to think you are racist you need to quit letting racists speak for you.
There are those who are simply racist, and those who are willing to enable them via denial, deflection and willful ignorance.

Which is worse? I guess I could make an argument in either direction.

Occupied is smearing scores of millions of good people, with a slur, for partisan purposes, and you are supporting him.

This type of behavior has been used to dismiss the valid interests and concerns of the people that the 1/6 rioters came from.

If you want to understand their psychology, you need to understand that you being a dick to them, is going to result in them being angry with you.

You do it long enough, and the list of grievances get big enough, and violence will eventually result.

Question: Has anything happened to REDUCE that list since 1/6, or is it only growing?
Collectively the hard right is as racist as a Klan meeting. Step away from the bastards and make some effort to differentiate yourself and the problem goes away.

You are being very vague about who you are talking about, but real quick with very serious and personal slurs. I guess the clean debate zone is ok with that.

The Klan is estimated at a few thousand people in this country. Even if you try to count EVERY ws, you still will be lucky to get into the 5 digits.

They are an insignificant fringe and anyone smearing the GOP as a whole, or a mainstream figure like Trump with them, is being....

very divisive. And violating the spirit of the Clean Debate Zone, if not the letter of it.

AND my point is, that the more you do that, and the more you suppress the right of good people to have valid issues and concerns discussed because someone called them names, the more you create the situation where violence is going to occur.
For every card-carrying Klan member there are ten-thousand who will never say anything against them. That looks a lot like tacit approval. That was clearly illustrated during the battle over confederate monuments. Every one of you knew for a fact that White supremacists were leading that fight and you fell in behind them. The right has failed the racism test every single time since Trump became your leader.

We do not know that. YOu people want to believe that, because it gives you an excuse to smear and vilify people you hate.

The more you call people vile names, FALSELY, the more you piss us off.

Do you want more violence?
Are you threatening violence if we don't stop calling out your bullshit? If there was anything good, honest or decent there you assholes threw it in the trash on 1/6. More violence is not going to do anything except to further damn your cause.

You calling good people "klan members" is not calling us out on our bullshit, it is you spewing bullshit.

My intent is not to "threaten" violence, but to wake you up to the obvious consequences of your behavior, so that we can have LESS violence moving forward instead of more.

Obviously.
If a bunch of scumbags decide to spill blood over my non violent opinions it's hardly my fault. I am not responsible for your bruised feelings or your unfocused rage.

You pretending to forget that people like you use false accusations of wacism, to deny good people their right to voice their concerns and have them addressed politically? As discussed above?

You are the bad guy here, smearing good people with vile slurs, based on bullshit.
Boo fucking hoo. You don't see me going around pissing and moaning about what you maniacs call liberals. Grow a thicker hide snowflake. If I think something is racist I'm going to say it as if I live in a free country where people can say what they want. Nothing about the 1st amendment means I have to respect a goddamned thing you or anyone says. If people think you are being racist you probably are in some way. Either adjust your rhetoric or take your lumps like a grown up adult.

You have weaponized calling people wacist to the point that is effectively suppresses the ability of people to get their valid interests and grievances heard, let alone addressed.

That is a breakdown of the system.

If you make peaceful change impossible, don't whine like a faggot, when you get violence.
You really should differentiate between me personally and whatever group you are in the process of blaming for your problems. For example: When I say "you" I am talking about you and what you have said and not about all conservatives or Trumpbots. We are just two nobodies talking on a message board and neither of us are responsible for any difficulty the other is having nor do we have any control over the government, party politics or what anyone else says. I do not speak for anyone but me. If you presume to speak for all Trumbots well that's retarded.

You are part of the group I am referring to AND you are personally demonstrating the vile and divisive behavior I am discussing.

This is the freaking CLEAN DEBATE ZONE, and teh op is all about understanding the other side, and is normal with any discussion with you liberals, it quickly devolves to you people ignoring any and all points we make and you just calling us names, as a way of dismissing and marginalizing us.

Specifically, the name, "wacist".

I fully understand that you do not believe yourself to racist. You need to understand what the Trump fans look like when they are standing shoulder to shoulder with real honest to God white supremacists on every issue. There is no way to tell one rage filled white guy from another when no effort is made by anyone to demonstrate they are somehow different. When you lack the courage to tell the goosesteppers in your midst to take a hike it's the same as telling them they are welcome. Demonstrate your non-racist attitude by calling out some of the haters on the board and see just how viciously they turn on you. If you can't do it then accept whatever labels people put on you because you are too chicken to stand alone.

Since when was the last time a republican was in charge of Chicago, Detroit for that matter Atlanta?

If blue states and cities where cheaper I would move there, not leave there

Again, those cities didn't decline because of their mayors.

They declined because big industry replaced them with automation, or moved factories out of the country.

You blame poor people for what rich people did to you.

"If we're violent, it's your fault". The excuse of rapists and terrorists.

As we saw on Jan 6.

Mac, please ease up on the "understanding". You are going way overboard. So much understanding, is not safe for a mere human.

And I like the way that you call me a rapist and a terrorist, while not actually doing it. REally drives home how great the Clean Debate Zone is.

If you are a rules lawyer with the heart of a troll.
I didn't call you a rapist and a terrorist. I can only keep this stuff so simple.

And I definitely don't expect someone like you to understand anything outside of your world.

Trump was a lousy racist. He wanted charter schools for inner city Black kids. He set up Opportunity Zones to benefit Black neighborhoods. They also saw their wages rise significantly before the Scamdemic.
Trump's most devoted followers are the haters. They saw something there they really liked.
Big time projection. Do they scream for dead cops? Do they burn cities and loot? You are with the haters. There is no doubt about it.
There was no a political cost to condemning violence when BLM protests got out of hand. No one turned on anyone for saying that violence was not to be tolerated and looters should be jailed. Meanwhile republicans have had to walk back any criticism they ever had for the insurrectionists and join in the revisionism that holds Trump and his followers blameless for 1/6.
The Feds dropped the charges on most and have Trump supporters in solitary confinement for trespassing. You people are fascists.
You cannot bring yourself to say anything against the so called patriots that desecrated the capital over a mere lost election. Your tacit approval of political violence is hardly unexpected. It tracks with the frantic whitewashing that has been a constant chore to make Trump's presidency something other than an eternal embarrassment for our country.

The op claims that the riot was NOT about the election. Did you forget that?
Wrong. Maybe you should watch the video so that you're not posting out of ignorance. It wasn't ONLY about the Great Replacement. The study indicated, as I said, that it was "the most consistent motivating fact", and "the main driver". Not the only one. He goes into that, in detail.

Life isn't binary, simplistic, either/or......

.....aw, never mind. I know I'm wasting my time here.

Trump invited Kanye West to the white house to discuss black issues and sat there and let a man half his age lecture him, the most powerful man in the world, like he was a child.

That was a powerful symbolic gesture, of the type that mac1958 is, or was, always saying that the GOP needs to do. Trump did it.

ws would not do it. They were not there with him, sitting there to be lectured.

That is one example. Do you want another?

AND, my point stands. Clean Debate Zone. OP talking about understanding the other. And you libs immediately degenerate into nothing but name calling.

Nothing but name calling? I have been trying to put your nose on a single point. I can't tell the white supremacists from the rest of the Trump supporters. No one can because there is no visible or rhetorical difference that is detectable. Can you tell? You seem to think there is a clear difference. Educate the board on how to tell if the Trumpbot we are talking to is a white supremacist or not.

Sure you did. That you play rhetorical games so that you don't have to defend your vile slurs, is just an additional goad, in your divisive game.

You libs have corrupted and abused the flow of information in media and education and big tech, to the point that your enemies are effectively marginalized so that you can push your agenda without their interests or voices having any consideration.

It has reached a point where discussion is impossible. As demonstrated by your thread.

HEre we are, in the "clean debate zone", and all you libs are doing is talking about how republicans are nazis and rapists and terrorists.

And if we defend ourselves? Then the conversation just drags on as you people stonewall, creating the illusion that there is credibility to your vile lies.

If we DON'T defend ourselves? Then it creates the illusion of confirmation though not being challenged.

This is the breakdown of our political system. There is no political or legal mechanism for us to defend our interests, or at this point, even our right to HAVE interests.

You have made peaceful change impossible.

You want to understand the Other? THERE IS IT.

Trumpism is very much about maintaining and strengthening every unfair advantage white people have left. They being vengeful minded are certain all the people that got officially treated like garbage for 250 years are out for some payback.

Occupied is the one that spun it so that the riot was merely "over the lost election". I was addressing HIM.

Your snide rudeness should have been directed AT HIM, if not dropped entirely.

I have no problem dealing with complex issues. Occupied? Not so much. TO him, this is just about calling republicans names.

And you are supporting him. Good job OP.

No one can because there is no visible or rhetorical difference that is detectable. Can you tell? You seem to think there is a clear difference. Educate the board on how to tell if the Trumpbot we are talking to is a white supremacist or not.

I just gave you a nice example and you respond by ignoring it and calling us some more names.

If this was not the Clean Debate Zone, I would think you were being asshole. I could not tell the difference between a lib an asshole. Because they are so much alike, with no detectable difference.

So, Occupied, DID I CALL YOU ANY NAMES IN THAT POST?

Do you think you are being clever with your little rhetorical games, or are you such a troll that you don't even see what a troll you are being?

People like you have shut down Debate or discuss or politics as an avenue of change for people like me.

Oh give us a break, Chicago has extra taxes on Snickers bars for Pete sake

In a probably-futile attempt to save my thread from the perpetual innocent victimhood of Trumpsters:

From the piece:

Here is an excerpt from my 2013 book, Dancing with Fire , which portends the events we’re now facing:

Clinging to being right can become a delicious addiction because it activates the pleasure centers of the brain…If we have a low tolerance for uncertainty, we will neatly order our world by putting people in fixed categories. People are good or bad, they’re either with us or against us, they’re “saved” or infidels. Clinging to these self-comforting beliefs creates intolerance, which on a larger scale ultimately undermines democracy.

We may favor politicians who prey upon our fears, exploit our discontents, and rely on our ignorance and gullibility. Unfortunately, these are often the very politicians whose message gets splashed across the airwaves by an industry that thrives on controversy. With their difficulty tolerating ambiguity, they take hardened positions on complicated issues and speak with a conviction that activates our angst and preys on our psychological vulnerabilities, such as for acceptance and belonging.

Taking this concept to an extreme, we might observe such tactics in Hitler’s horrifying rise to power. He seemed to be amused by it all when he famously exclaimed, “What luck for rulers that men do not think!” And Joseph Goebbels, Hitler’s minister of propaganda, is credited with popularizing this familiar political maneuver: “Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it."

We are here reminded of dark, fear spreading tactics that are immune to the truth, including Joseph McCarthy infecting American politics with unsubstantiated claims of widespread communist infiltration in the 1950s, and more recently a dogged, unfounded insistence from some bastions of power that President Obama is a Muslim or was not born in the United States. Sadly, we often elect officials who remain committed to their fears and dissociate from the complexity and ambiguity that is part of life. As the philosopher Voltaire warned us, “Doubt is not a pleasant state of mind, but certainty is absurd."

Trump got attention with his birthism. But his campaign focused on real issue, TRade and immigration.

His methods and his issues, were completely mainstream and reasonable.

CALLING EVERYONE WHO OPPOSES YOU WACIST, is "putting people in fixed categories", it is avoiding complexity.

you call us nazis and rapist, and then whine that we defend ourselves?

DON'T DO THAT SHIT AND WE CAN HAVE A NICE CLEAN DEBATE ZONE DEBATE.

Wrong again. You simply don't understand my posts.

I pay very close attention to what you people say. I ask questions. I start threads. I want you people to be free to speak your mind, and I oppose those who want to cancel you, intimidate you or shut you down. I want the light shined on you and your opinions as brightly and completely as possible.

Last time: You simply don't understand my posts. I will continue to pay attention, but I'm tired of trying to relate simple notions to you.

What I no longer do is waste time trying to engage here. It's pointless and depressing. Play this stuff with someone else, thanks.

Then show it. Address the points raised, without snide comments about "the last time this happened" or"that is what rapists and terrorist say"

You don't want your thread bogged down in "innocent Trumpers defending themselves"?

Then stop with the personal attacks. You are the one causing the problem.
