Top 20% of households pay vast majority of income taxes

So the old Soviet Union didn’t have demand?

Why the strawmen?
You know your argument is weak.

It’s not a strawman. My point is that Demand alone cannot drive capitalism.

The Demise of the American Middle Class In Numbers.

Over the past 35 years the American dream has gradually disappeared. The process was slow, so most people didn’t notice. They just worked a few more hours, borrowed a little more and cut back on non-essentials. But looking at the numbers and comparing them over long time periods, it is obvious that things have changed drastically. Here are the details:

1. WORKERS PRODUCE MORE BUT THE GAINS GO TO BUSINESS.

Over the past 63 years worker productivity has grown by 2.0% per year.

we have GOP tax rates and they have been cutting services for the rest for 35 years, Super Duper. That's the way any health system works. Or you can just shoot the sick and people who have accidents LOL

If your goal is to lower taxes for the rich even more and force those who can't afford it to should more of the burden

Do the rich pay more or less for gas tax?

Much less as a percentage of their income.

Of course. But in absolute $$ it’s the same. I like A consumption tax. Seems most fair.

It's not the same at all. The idea of not being able to afford gas never enters into the mind of rich folks.

Rich folks already pay the majority of the taxes. They may consume a lot more gas with their high priced cars and boats. They already pay nearly 90% of our taxes so how much more should they pay? 40% of the country pays nothing.

I don’t think the wealthy necessarily use more gas. Working class folks typically have to drive an off a lot to and from work. Many working-class folks are drivers as their job or as a part-time job. It seems like a low flat tax will get the job done just fine.

If the rich pay 90% it's because they make 90% of the income in the country too, because if you count all taxes and fees, we basically have a flat tax system with even the poorest paying 20% in taxes about the same as the rich pay. 40% don't pay any federal income taxes, super dupers. Google the only tax graph you need to know and you will be illuminated.

The top 20% of households paid 88.1% of federal income taxes, and 69.5% of total federal taxes in 2015, ATR notes, citing the most recent numbers provided by the Congressional Budget Office.

54646-home-figure.png

The top one percent (around 1.2 million households) paid 39.4% of federal income taxes and 26.2% of total federal taxes, at an average total tax rate of 33.3%, dropping its average income from $1.9 million to $1.2 million. Its total percent of income was 16.6% before taxes and 13.2% after taxes.

A few key numbers from the other four quintiles via the CBO's 2015 report:

  • The fourth quintile was taxed at 17.9% federal income tax and saw its average income of $108,000 drop to $91,000. Its share of income was 20% before and after taxes.
  • The middle quintile was taxed at 14% federal income tax and saw its average income drop from $71,000 to $65,000. Share of income: 13.6% before taxes, 14.7% after.
  • The second quintile paid 9.2% federal income tax but saw its average income of $44,000 increase to $47,000 from means-tested transfers. Share of income: 8.7% before transfers and taxes, 11% after.
  • The bottom quintile paid 1.5% federal income tax and saw its average income of $20,000 grow from transfers to $33,000. Share of income: $3.7 before transfers and taxes, 11% after.

So why are we thinking of taxing the rich even more? How about addressing:

-- Entitlements;
-- Illegal Immigration - each illegal costs us ~$77k per year;
-- Fraud in our welfare system ($1.1Trn welfare system)

My solutions would be:

-- Entitlement reform in terms of raising the retirement age and giving people under 30 the option to invest SS monies privately (exiting the Social program). Reform Medicare and Medicaid. Use vouchers perhaps.

-- Get rid of sanctuary cities and enforce deportations.

-- Hire more officers to enforce waste and fraud.

Thoughts....?
Who would you rather be the top 20% paying most of the taxes or the bottom 80%? And are you suggesting 80% of voters need to pay more taxes?

I am Suggesting the rich pay their fare share already so there is no need to raise taxes on them
Soon infrastructure is going to require a tax increase. So if you were a politician, you would raise taxes on all 100% equally, not a heavier tax on the rich. A flat tax.

This is another way the rich have widened the gap between the rich and rest of us.

I would do a 1.5% federal consumption tax

A consumption tax directly targets the working class.
I have zero debt. I want them to raise interest rates so I start making 7% on my savings account. Remember those days? When are we going back to those days. That’s when America was great. My two poor grandmothers each had about $100,000 in savings. Each year they got $7k in interest. It was how they were able to retire.

Fuck people who want to buy a home. Pay off your home quickly. Ten % interest on your mortgage will make you make double payments. You shouldn’t take 30 years to pay off your home anyways right?

It's not the same at all. The idea of not being able to afford gas never enters into the mind of rich folks.

Rich folks already pay the majority of the taxes. They may consume a lot more gas with their high priced cars and boats. They already pay nearly 90% of our taxes so how much more should they pay? 40% of the country pays nothing.

I don’t think the wealthy necessarily use more gas. Working class folks typically have to drive an off a lot to and from work. Many working-class folks are drivers as their job or as a part-time job. It seems like a low flat tax will get the job done just fine.

You need to take an Econ class, Mr. Communist

Nope. OnePercenter is a wealthy capitalist. Just ask him! ;)

He is not even educated in basic Finance and Econ.
I see many republicans who know basic Econ and finance not know shit about the real world.

For example you would think that will all the illegals leaving and not coming wages would be up for workers but only a little.

Trickle down in theory makes sense but a middle class first approach works best

Who would you rather be the top 20% paying most of the taxes or the bottom 80%? And are you suggesting 80% of voters need to pay more taxes?

I am Suggesting the rich pay their fare share already so there is no need to raise taxes on them

Makes sense except we have $22trn in debt.

Automation not illegals is what is killing wages. Illegals should not be here as a matter of principal. Come in legally. Or get work Visas. Progessive Leftists want me and my people dead. I am All set with them.

Much less as a percentage of their income.

Of course. But in absolute $$ it’s the same. I like A consumption tax. Seems most fair.

Not in Michigan.

I want a gas tax because I work 7 minutes from home. Like republicans I vote selfishly.

I want interest rates to rise because I have no debt and I want better % on my savings. I don’t care if home interest rates go to 15% I pay cash for everything from here on out.

If you cut my taxes somewhere else I’d be ok with a consumption tax but tell me what would you have me pay on the $25k pontoon I purchased last summer? I paid 6% sales tax. How much more would you charge me for buying that boat? 10% would be $2500. I would be ok paying $27,500. That wouldn’t stop me from buying the thing

Fuck it do it. Nothing you do will hurt me unless you cost me my job.

Crash the market I’ll just buy low sell high
