Russia probed at least 7 states’ voter systems before the 2016 election

Department of Homeland Security officials confirmed in a June 2017 Senate intelligence hearing that at least 21 states were targeted and hackers had probed their registration systems. Only Illinois election officials testified to a breach — “a malicious cyber-attack of unknown origin” against the Illinois voter registration system that allowed hackers to access 90,000 voter registration records.

Officials with the Department of Homeland Security didn’t elaborate on the other targeted states. Sam Liles, then-acting director of the Cyber Division of the DHS, testified that Russians were testing systems’ vulnerability — which he compared to “someone walking down the street to see if you are home.”

At the same time, Liles conceded that ”a small number of networks were exploited — they made it through the door.” Then, as now, intelligence officials say none of the breaches affected the 2016 vote.

Why aren't Western sanctions stopping Putin?

"Facing international condemnation and new punitive measures over disrupting Western democracies and suspected of ordering the murder of a defector living in the U.K., Putin nonetheless coasted to a fourth presidential term, earning a congratulatory phone call and an offer of a summit meeting from President Trump."

Thanks for showing Obama and the Russians worked together to attempt to hack US states' election devices / systems......

Has Mueller been made aware of this? (Not that he would care....)

U.S. Spies, Seeking to Retrieve Cyberweapons, Paid Russian Peddling Trump Secrets

BERLIN — After months of secret negotiations, a shadowy Russian bilked American spies out of $100,000 last year, promising to deliver stolen National Security Agency cyberweapons in a deal that he insisted would also include compromising material on President Trump, according to American and European intelligence officials.

The cash, delivered in a suitcase to a Berlin hotel room in September, was intended as the first installment of a $1 million payout, according to American officials, the Russian and communications reviewed by The New York Times.

Instead of providing the hacking tools, the Russian produced unverified and possibly fabricated information involving Mr. Trump and others, including bank records, emails and purported Russian intelligence data.

In the middle of Mueller’s onvestigation, his “sources” network of spies got SCREWED on a bad deal with the Russians. All this was to provide proof certain Americans were colluding with the Russians to effect an election. How awesome is that?

If that’s not collusion, but there’s more:

Hacked Emails Expose Hacks

Acordijg to Reuters, the leaders of the U.S. intelligence community do not embrace a CIA assessment that Russian cyber-attacks were aimed at helping Republican President-elect Donald Trump win the 2016 election. While the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) does not dispute the CIA’s analysis of Russian hacking operations, it does not endorse their assessment because there is a lack of conclusive evidence that Moscow intended to boost Trump over Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton.

The position of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), which oversees the seventeen agency-strong U.S. intelligence communities, gives Trump an informed position to dispute the CIA assessment.

Former Army Intel Officer Rejects Hack Theory: CIA’s Brennan Playing ‘Info Warfare’ retired Army intelligence officer dismissed the theory that the Russians hacked the election in favor of Donald Trump, instead putting forth his own theory—CIA Director John Brennan is playing political games.

Retired Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer stated that in his opinion Brennan is trying to undermine the president-elect out of deference to his old boss, President Barack Obama.

Wouo this really be the first time Democrats worked with the Russians?

Remember when Ted Kennedy asked the Russians to 'interfere'?

Composed in 1983 by Victor Chebrikov, the top man at the KGB, the memorandum was addressed to Yuri Andropov, the top man in the entire USSR. The subject: Sen. Edward Kennedy.

"On 9-10 May of this year," the May 14 memorandum explained, "Sen. Edward Kennedy's close friend and trusted confidant [John] Tunney was in Moscow." (Tunney was Kennedy's law school roommate and a former Democratic senator from California.) "The senator charged Tunney to convey the following message, through confidential contacts, to the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Y. Andropov."

Kennedy's message was simple. He proposed an unabashed quid pro quo. Kennedy would lend Andropov a hand in dealing with President Reagan. In return, the Soviet leader would lend the Democratic Party a hand in challenging Reagan in the 1984 presidential election. "The only real potential threats to Reagan are problems of war and peace and Soviet-American relations," the memorandum stated. "These issues, according to the senator, will without a doubt become the most important of the election campaign."

Carter, Democrats Asked Soviets to Stop Reagan

Carter expressed his concern about and opposition to Reagan's defense buildup. He boldly told Dobrynin that Moscow would be better off with someone else in the White House. If Reagan won, he warned, "There would not be a single agreement on arms control, especially on nuclear arms, as long as Reagan remained in power."

Using the Russians to influence the presidential election was nothing new for Carter.

Schweizer reveals Russian documents that show that in the waning days of the 1980 campaign, the Carter White House dispatched businessman Armand Hammer to the Soviet Embassy.

Hammer was a longtime Soviet-phile, and he explained to the Soviet ambassador that Carter was "clearly alarmed" at the prospect of losing to Reagan.

Hammer pleaded with the Russians for help. He asked if the Kremlin could expand Jewish emigration to bolster Carter's standing in the polls.

It seems you on the right are the only ones obsessed with Hillary. Almost every post is about her and how we on the left are decrying her loss. Most of us don't give a shit. We just want someone sane and stable at the helm. We've suffered through GOP administrations before as has the rest of America but at least we knew that our differences were ideological and political and not there because we had a nutjob in the white house. I disagreed with W and Reagan and others but this is concern for a whole other reason or set of reasons. We see that we have an unstable, clueless, vile human being in a position of authority so far beyond his skill set that it threatens national security and the moral authority of the U.S. in the eyes of the world. We never thought that those other administrations were a threat to the very fabric of our system. We always knew that whatever damage was done by bad policies were mend able and could be set right by future policy makers. This is not the case with the Trump poison spreading through the world. This damage may very well be permanent and unfixable. That's what you Trumpers don't understand. We'd gladly take even W back or Mike Pence. This is not normal.

Hillary keeps inserting herself into the conversation with her incessant "it wasn't my fault" tours. Are we supposed to just ignore her? I mean, she's very useful, reminding everyone of possibly the most embarrassing presidential loss in history.

I don't know where you're looking to find her in the media. I almost never see her or hear anything about her except on this forum. Fess up. You mention her for two reasons, to deflect from the Trump mess and to accuse the left of being "butt Hurt." Whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean. Just one in a large series of talking points repeated over and over ad nauseum. Personally, I read news papers, Magazines and catch TV news from lots of places but I rarely hear her name with the exception of Fox News, on there she's mentioned a lot. Why? Because it's a tool, a distraction from what's really happening in Washington. Forget Hillary. I have and I almost never hear her name from any of my liberal friends. But just like Fox News I hear it from my Conservative friends. Yes, I have friends of all political persuasions. We've made a pact not to talk politics when we're together. So to summarize, I'm not "Butt hurt" or obsessed with Hillary or Bill or Obama or Bush. But Trump is another story. I believe him to be a clear and present danger to our country. I see that he has no interest in admonishing Putin for the dirty tricks in our election or the murdering of people who oppose him in any way. I see a President who refuses to take him on for these things and just the opposite. He praises him incessantly and even calls to congratulate him for HIS "election victory" The fact that the right doesn't find that bizarre and crazy amazes me and every other person who is not just totally enamored with this guy. It should make ANYONE suspicious of why.

Now your assertion was the United States Government was placed on “installment plan” in order to obtain information on cyberweapons. So rather than the Russians give them the intelligence they needed regarding the hacking, the spies could ONLY MANAGE to be on the hook for an “installment plan” on a shady deal that perhaps would later result in trustworthy information that they might obtain. It’s really just a matter of convenience that information they needed to inquire on Trump, for the investigation of collusion just happens to be mentioned in the deal.

Yeah right. Why don’t you provide me your counter-link that can also back your claim, collaberated from another source regarding this deal.

Btw where’s your link to state Sen Kennedy didn’t collide with the Russians to try and effect the outcome of an election?

Despite this, where is this link to solid documented evidence of Trump - Russia collusion?

First, Trump congratulating Putin on his election victory is a long standing tradition, something that other presidents have done, so that would lead me to think you're reciting talking points instead of evaluating the whole story.

Second, I talk about Hillary because I'm still delighted she lost her bid for the presidency, AGAIN. It has nothing to do with deflecting from Trump. The fact that democrats don't want to talk about her is not surprising.

Clinton was investigated for five years...4 more to go for Putin's Boy...

There was a crime that warranted an investigation...there was never one proven regarding Trump warranting a witch Hunt.
Investigations of the Clintons, like with Whitewater, resulted in the imprisonment of just about everyone BUT the Clintons, who - as usual - were protected.

Evidence shows the only reason Hillary is not in jail today is because of Barry, Holder, Lynch, Mueller, Comey, McCabe, Strzok, etc...

So AGAIN put up the undeniable evidence to support your claim....

...or do us all a favor and STFU.

Really? What Whitewater crime was found? Go ahead....let the world know....cause we all must have slept through that indictmenr...
Hillary Clinton and the Whitewater Controversy: A Close-Up

McMaser was a field commander who has seen war first hand and knows the futility and the horror of it. And his replacement is a non military neocon who has no such experience and will be in Trump's ear about Iran, N Korea and anyone else he can dream up for the kids of working folks to fight and die. He reminds me very much of Cheney. This is not good at all.

Hopefully Mattis and perhaps Pompeo as well will be a firewall. I honestly believe that we may have gotten to a point where the military may not follow an order to attack if it's made without adequate justification. The Congress needs to draft a new AUMF ASAP.

More like you're hopelessly lost. Millions did vote for him but it was those 80k that made the difference.

Yeah, it was close. Yippee skippee. You are arbitrarily choosing one group of people and assigning to them a special status, when in reality it was the totality of the voters in those states that made the difference and defeated Hillary. Think of it. It was ALL those voters, young, old, black, white, Hispanic, gun owners, gun haters, voters who voted and those who refused to vote that all combined to deny Hillary her throne.

Good job everyone.

Special status? :laugh2:

You missed the point. Go figure.

No, the point is, you're pretending there is a small group of deluded voters for whom you can blame Hillary's defeat. In fact, it is the totality of voters who, combined, denied her the throne. Your petty need to spew vitriol is pointless.

It's not vitriol. It's fact.

No, it's not. There are thousands of democrat voters who refused to vote for Hillary, yet you can't blame them? And yes, it's vitriol.

Sure, ok.

The president does not congratulate a sham election, especially just after they poisoned one of their former spies on British soil. But more important than trump congratulating Putin, was that him doing it was leaked, which means the only way to get thru to Trump is to leak his misdeeds to the press. The leaks are a sign of complete disfunction in the whitehouse.

And yes talking about Hillary is a deflection, because she is irrelevant. You have nothing positive to say about Trump, so all your have is Trump's russian-assisted victory.

And we are all very grateful Hillary is irrelevant. She, however, refuses to accept that reality, and since she and her acolytes keep whining about how she was "cheated" (interesting that you couldn't resist that little "russian-assisted" gaff), so we have fun with them. When she realizes it really was her fault and shuts up, and her acolytes on here stop whining about her humiliating loss, you won't see much more about her. Unless, that is, she lands in more trouble.

More like you're hopelessly lost. Millions did vote for him but it was those 80k that made the difference.
It was the 80k democrats that refused to vote for HIllary.

Then you are ill informed, she inserts herself every chance she gets and she is indeed all over the media. Your little mind in no way represents reality.

Great. You're not required to pay attention to anything she says.

Quite the opposite, dope. :laugh2:

Sure. Probably because they believed things about her that were not true.

What!?! Lies being told about a candidate in an election? What's next, cats and dogs living together?

It is to laugh, heartily.

Well, when you get all of your news from right wing propaganda machines like Fox I suppose she'll be talked about a lot. LOL But, the rest of the world has moved on. Exactly what the righties on here are always suggesting we do. Well, we've moved on. We are interested in what's happening in Washington, now! She's not even in govt any more. When is the right wing media gonna start addressing Trump's behavior? Or, the Saturday night massacre going on in his white house? Now, we have almost no push back on power because of the firings and we've got the ultimate Hawk in charge of Foreign affairs. Bolton was the principle architect of the Iraq war. Is that what the right wants? War on multiple fronts? Iran, N Korea, Syria, etc. Not to mention another log thrown on the fire of trade wars with China and some of our own allies. We're entering a very dangerous period and with an unstable CIC with a neocon Hawk in his ear 24/7. There's a very real possibility of millions of deaths on the Korean Peninsula. The middle east is apparently not enough of a quagmire for this President as he's contemplating axing the Iran deal. On top of all that and nearly as shocking to our system is another giant spending bill with vastly reduced revenue via the tax cut to himself. In just over a year we've seen 3 trillion in lost revenue and deficit spending. But the Trumpers will ride shotgun to defend every single impulsive hair-brained scheme by him and now Bolton. Hold onto your ass cheeks, this is gonna be a wild and dangerous ride on the Stupid Express.

It seems to be part of a big problem for Trump and a diversion for you.

Well, them combined with millions of very smart people who also voted for him.

Who read and believed the fake news Russia used to elect him...

They also listened to what he said, what Hillary said and decided they wanted her less than they wanted him. A few Facebook posts didn't change their minds.

Trump won three key states, (46 electoral votes),by only 80k votes. That's only one district per state.

It would only take a very small percentage of those exposed to Russian propoganda who believed it and voted accordinly to acheive those results.

Russian propaganda on facebook was both pro Trump and pro Hillary, as well as anti Trump and anti Hillary.

What the Russians wanted to do is get us all screaming at each other and not working together--------------because of fools like you and the stupid media pukes, they succeeded.

All intelligence agencies came to the conclusion that Russia overwhelmingly supported trump with fake ads damaging Hillary....nice try though.

yeah, sure. the same intelligence agencies that were trying to undermine Trump with a fake dossier, the same media that continuously lied, and is still lying?

don't be so fricken naïve. look up the word conspiracy and you will find the definition of the clowns at the top of the FBI and DOJ during the 2016 campaign.

Hillary lost because the American voters understood who and what she is, not because of the Russians spending a few thousand $ posting on facebook.

Loser? Losers don't win. Hillary and you are losers. The bitch lost to the black guy and then to Trump. If the DNC hadn't rigged it, she probably would have lost to Bernie too.

and since Trump and I are the same age its unlikely that he was my daddy. Who was your daddy? was it Webb Hubbell who also "sired" Chelsea Clinton (according to Bill Clinton)
