Clearly, Trump did not prepare well. No real surprise there considering that he never really 'put in the work' of being president while he was the president. That's because he is and always has been a showman, first and foremost. He markets an image and spends very little time concentrating on the development of a quality product or how to make it profitable based on market conditions. If he was a CEO of a publicly traded company, you could bet that he'd spend millions of dollars on advertising and virtually nothing on R&D, figuring that he could convince people to buy a product even if it didn't come close to living up to the hype. Then, if and when it failed, Trump would just move on to the next hype-heavy sales gimmick.

Think of Trump Vodka originally introduced in 2005. Trump claimed it would outsell Grey Goose. Of course, it didn't even come close to doing that. It lasted for only six years.

A better example would be Trump Steaks which was sold exclusively through The Sharper Image and QVC. It lasted for only 2 months in 2007.

Then there was the Trump Shuttle. It lasted from 1989 until 1992 and was never profitable.

But I've got to give Trump credit for one thing. For a man who's started so many poorly-planned ventures that eventually failed and/or went bankrupt (think of his casinos, or Trump University), he still markets his ventures on an image of a successful entrepreneur and manages to pull it off despite all evidence to the contrary. His presidency was no different in that regard. Despite losing the House, the Senate, and his reelection bid for the first time that any political party has done so since Herbert Hoover in 1932, he continues to sell his time in office as a massive success, despite the fact that his only legislative success was his 2017 tax cut. That's not only bravado, that's moxie, pure and simple.
