Trump releases 7 point healthcare plan

Healthcare Reform
I wont post his comments and such. Just the plan
  1. Completely repeal Obamacare. Our elected representatives must eliminate the individual mandate. No person should be required to buy insurance unless he or she wants to.
  2. Modify existing law that inhibits the sale of health insurance across state lines. As long as the plan purchased complies with state requirements, any vendor ought to be able to offer insurance in any state. By allowing full competition in this market, insurance costs will go down and consumer satisfaction will go up.
  3. Allow individuals to fully deduct health insurance premium payments from their tax returns under the current tax system. Businesses are allowed to take these deductions so why wouldn’t Congress allow individuals the same exemptions? As we allow the free market to provide insurance coverage opportunities to companies and individuals, we must also make sure that no one slips through the cracks simply because they cannot afford insurance. We must review basic options for Medicaid and work with states to ensure that those who want healthcare coverage can have it.
  4. Allow individuals to use Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). Contributions into HSAs should be tax-free and should be allowed to accumulate. These accounts would become part of the estate of the individual and could be passed on to heirs without fear of any death penalty. These plans should be particularly attractive to young people who are healthy and can afford high-deductible insurance plans. These funds can be used by any member of a family without penalty. The flexibility and security provided by HSAs will be of great benefit to all who participate.
  5. Require price transparency from all healthcare providers, especially doctors and healthcare organizations like clinics and hospitals. Individuals should be able to shop to find the best prices for procedures, exams or any other medical-related procedure.
  6. Block-grant Medicaid to the states. Nearly every state already offers benefits beyond what is required in the current Medicaid structure. The state governments know their people best and can manage the administration of Medicaid far better without federal overhead. States will have the incentives to seek out and eliminate fraud, waste and abuse to preserve our precious resources.
  7. Remove barriers to entry into free markets for drug providers that offer safe, reliable and cheaper products. Congress will need the courage to step away from the special interests and do what is right for America. Though the pharmaceutical industry is in the private sector, drug companies provide a public service. Allowing consumers access to imported, safe and dependable drugs from overseas will bring more options to consumers.

------

Not too bad. Add competition and remove barriers. Therefore, lowering costs. Actually going after the ruckus that started all of this totalitarian healthcare crap.

So, back to making lots of money for private companies and back to the old ways then?
That's not what I read in the op but I wouldn't mind in the least if NOTHING replaced Obamacare.

If you think Obamacare is so great remove the draconian mandate & let it compete on the open market with the old plans & see if it survives.

Nothing replaces Obamacare

Do you agree with:

Denying insurance to those with pre-existing conditions? Even from when they were a child?
Lifetime caps where once you use up your coverage you are on your own?
Going back to padding hospital bills to cover those without insurance?

Without a mandate we will have lots with no insurance. When they go to the hospital and can't pay it increases costs for everyone.
Only if government forces hospitals to treat them, like they have. Your argument is big government demands bigger government, so that makes it right.

So you want people dying in the streets?

Can't provide for those with pre existing conditions and compete without a mandate.
A mandate is not competing though. It's like giving a man with one leg a car ride to the finish line in a 100 yard dash race.

And expecting them to compete while still providing for pre existing conditions is like making them push a car through the race.

Paying for pre existing conditions is dependant on the mandate.

Preexisting conditions is dependent on everyone including the healthy paying a ridiculous premium to absorb the risk of the unhealthy.
Just like the scam that social security has turned into you're ripping off the young & giving it to the old.

There are plenty of sick young people. Anyone can get sick at about any time. Better to have it ruin families?

Doesn't sound bad, but not sure it will have noticeable effect on healthcare costs. Will it increase costs for many now on obamacare?
Wasn't too specific on that. Probably will be discussed. I question what will happen to all the people that could lose their health insurance. Maybe they wont :dunno:

Losing the mandate brings us back to those with insurance paying for those who don't, so at best this will slow the rate of increase.

Keeping the mandate has us paying insurance for those who don't. Either way the middle class is forced to pay for those that don't or can't afford insurance.

At least the middle class can write off the expense.

Doesn't that mostly help the self employed? Premiums are mostly paid by employers.

A lot of companies pay part and the employee pays part. Small businesses offer plans but the rate is so high that employees will opt out and take the state offered plans. I worked for several small businesses that split the cost with the employee. Offering a complete write off would encourage employers to pay more. It would be a win, win.

Those that pay for insurance are already paying the higher cost of those that can't afford insurance and are still covered.

Either way the middle class will pay.

What a stupid reply...try again

I don't think it is very many $$$. Won't really effect most people.

Individual liberty is racist and inhumane

You think people shouldn't have insurance?
People should get insurance if they want. I don't agree with force.

OK....now what should happen when someone who made a choice not to have insurance develops cancer?
