I was beginning to wonder why this country doesn't do anything special on 4th of July anymore --- thank God Trump has rediscovered the tradition if not created the tradition of celebrating the 4th of July

You must live in a box in the middle of nowhere. Washington DC has a huge July 4 celebration with parades, picnics on the Mall comprising of hundreds of thousands of citizens, concerts and a massive fireworks display. Normally, the 3rd Infantry Honor Guard band gives a Concert at the Lincoln Memorial in the afternoon. Trump is trying to grab credit for something that has been done annually for decades. How ridiculous are Trump supporters to believe Americans don't celebrate July 4 and Trump is needed to "rediscover" or promote our birthday.

Try double-timing 5 miles in that era's combat boots with a bone spur in your heel....you'd have tears in your eyes in a mile and sitting alone by the side of the trail in 2. There had to be a verification of anything that could result in a 4F and I doubt Trump's doctor was willing to risk his license to lie for the boy. As for draftees, I wanted nothing to do with them or be anywhere near them....there were exceptions but for the most part they were terrible soldiers who's attitude and refusal to be alert and squared away (noisy, high, drunk, smoking on patrol) got a lot of good men killed.
