Leftists stupidly believe that Trump could've stopped them.
By the time they were at the Capitol steps, that crowd was beyond reason. Mob mentality had taken over and nothing Trump would've said would've stopped them.

Quite literally. As long as they've got a talking point, they'll ignore pretty much anything. Skyrocketing heatwaves that are killing thousands? There's a talking point. Attack on the capital? There's a talking point for that and a random villain to blame it on! Illegal plot to overturn the election? There's a talking point for that, too.
