That's actually pretty clever.

He's now using the presidential pardon as a cheap political parlor trick. It's pretty obvious and also does nothing to solve the issue of why players were kneeling in the first place.

No, it's clever because it's low investment, moderate reward (allowing him to claim to be magnanimous to the ignorant). Extremely low investment, actually. Not everything has to be a masterstroke.

Outside of his own fan base I don't know who he would be fooling. But I do see your point.

They are more interested in fixing a bias justice system rather than some attention getting pardon.

Actually they are more interested in doubling down on a failing strategy, because their egoes won't allow them to admit their initial tactic didn't get the results they were expecting.
