He walked away because Democrats had complete control to edit any and all testimony.Take it up with McCarthy. He's the one who walked away.

She wanted McCarthy to play her game. Yes, she offered seats but democrats would have total control of the content, had veto power over anything McCarthy's people would want to do, and also had total and complete control over what testimony would see the light of day and what testimony would be buried. It was never going to be a fair and balanced investigation.They’re the majority, dope!
The Speaker is who decides. She offered McCarthy his five seats. He played games and walked away when the Speaker would not play his game.

It wasn't going to be fair and balanced. Democrats made the rules of what testimony they would look for, what testimony they would make public, and what testimony they would squash. They had complete authority to do whatever the hell they wanted and block whatever the hell they wanted.

Why take part in hearings where those in charge determine what testimony they want, what is released, and what is squashed?
What Pelosi initially offered was a bipartisan committee with both parties enjoying equal power. A pity McCarthy rejected that. Now you're stuck with whatever that committee unearths and there ain't shit you can do about it but cry like a bitch.

Calling witnesses isn't "witness tampering". In regular, legitimate hearings, the accused have 6th Amendment rights to call witnesses in their favor. But the January 6th Committee is a kangaroo court without any protection for those who stand accused including President Trump.
