Trump wants Kaepernick & West for White House race summit

I wonder if Mac1958 can list 20 positive things that Barack Obama did as president.
If he can, will he? Will he happily give that man credit for doing many very good things?
I wonder why my posts and opinions are so goddamn important to you.

You just keep trying to get my attention.

I would ask, but of course, but since you're a hardcore partisan ideologue, I can't believe a thing you say.

So, I guess I'll just never know.
.

We knew he couldn't do it.

Nice. Thanks, Mr. President, this is LONG OVERDUE. Two well-known figures TALKING with high national visibility.

We need to start somewhere: President Trump Wants Colin Kaepernick, Quarterback He Vilified, and Kanye West for Summit on Race

I hope this happens, and I hope it starts REAL dialogue and communication and LISTENING.

Maybe they'll find a few points ON WHICH THEY CAN AGREE.

I was hoping for something like this from the prior administration.
.

A football player and a music star in a race summit? Let’s bill it as a cage match. Let’s get ready to rumble.

How about people who have experience with the issues?

Or...people of different races? Race issues involve more than one race.

Just what we need , a guy who said , “ Slavery was a choice!” I heard yesterday they are saying Kanye is going off the rails again. He is trying to sell his latest Album
Are you stupid or willfully stupid? I can't tell.

Its tokenism. Gets him a headline and thats it. Didnt he have a summit with the Parkland families a few weeks ago ?

Well, I hope Trump can see both sides of this, at least to some degree.
.

Trump is the guy that campaigned in Michigan and Wisconsin, when every "Reasonable" observer thought he was wasting his time.

He can see it.

The question is, is he going to be hard ball enough to hit the lie head on.

Or is he trying to be liked by people who hate him with every fiber of their being.
I think a combination of both.
He would need to demonstrate that he can see the big picture, and isn't bending over for either side of the issue.

He'd also need to control his impulse to over-promise, to over-showbiz, and to over-interpret the results.

He can do this. Most of the onus would be on West and Kap to stay focused and look for common ground.
.

Bullshit. The press will give West and Kaepernick a pass and will be looking for the slightest bullshit hint of a pretend reason to smear and attack Trump.
Or maybe something good will come of it.

We won't know unless we try in good faith.
.

Oh there is certainly a chance that something good can come of it.

But it will not be because the press is doing anything. It will be IN SPITE of all the press is doing to sabotage Trump, and anything that TRump might do,

not to mention any racial healing, at all.

The Press does not have Good Faith.

The prior administration had the beer summit that was widely mocked by republicans.
Ah, the "beer summit". Eight years, and we got the "beer summit".

We've never had a President more prepared and qualified to tackle our race issues head-on than Obama. Not even close. Yet in eight years, he did little more than vote "present".

I know you're ideologically obligated to spin for him. But as an Independent, that was by far my biggest disappointment with his administration.
.
So the beer summit doesn't matter and I'm the guy obligated to spin for pointing out a fact? Sure bud, your a real true independent!
I'm hoping for the best, you're deflecting.

Even though I voted against Trump, I don't care if he gets credit if this goes well. I just care about results.

The last thing you'd want is for this to actually work. Not with Trump in the White House.
.

The beer summit was calling the cop into a hostile situation and putting him in his place.
What was hostile about it?

Obama, the most powerful man in the world, who called the cop an idiot, invited the working class stiff into his house for a "teaching moment".

NO ONE, thought that Obama was referring to himself as the student.

He was the "teacher" and the stupid student(s) were the cop and White America.

Meh, I doubt Kapernick will participate.

More to the point, how is two celebrities barely talking coherently about an issue going to resolve much of anything? Have we gotten so dumb as a society that we think celebrity is expertise...

Well,I guess we do, considering who the president is, but most Americans were smart enough to say no to that.

Doesn't matter to me. This country is obsessed with its celebrities and with celebrity. I've been saying all along that this issue runs so deep that any progress may need to start from popular culture. If that's what it takes, great. I don't care.

I'd give Trump credit for trying.

AGAIN, Stormy Mac, you don't get credit for "solving" a problem you created.

If race relations are worse in this country now, it's because your hero, the Orange Shitgibbon, made them worse.

And no, the problem is not going to be solved by some Uncle Tom Celebrity babbling incoherently about how slavery is a state of mind.

Of course not. And look at the comments from the Regressives on this thread - they don't want anything to work if Trump gets credit for it. They're coming up with spin and deflection and they're going after me instead. This is the last thing they want.

That's one of the main reasons I think progress may need to come from popular culture, like this. People like this are idolized by millions, and this one event could start the ball rolling, getting more people to talk and listen.

Whatever it takes.

Yeah, like you guys all thought it was great When "Celebrity" Bill Cosby went around denouncing the bad behavior of black people.

Until we found out he was a raping creep, and now none of you want to be caught having a drink with him. (Not that having a drink with Cosby was ever a good idea)

I'd be more impressed with Trump on race relations if he would stop being such a racist and kind of admit that people like the NFL players who took a knee had a valid complaint. You know, instead of ranting about it to fire up rednecks like KKKorrel.

Its tokenism. Gets him a headline and thats it. Didnt he have a summit with the Parkland families a few weeks ago ?
Tokenism.
That perfectly describes the love that democrats have for Obama and why he was elected.

Can we agree that it is OK for a word to be offensive in one instance but not offensive in another? A word like ******, for example.
Only if both black people and white people can use that word offensively in one instance but not offensively in another.
I grew up saying ****** all the time because that's what they were called. I never once thought it was supposed to be offensive.

Um, guy, if it wasn't "offensive", then why did we never see anyone say it on TV until the 1970's?

I Love DACA kids, I want us to show love to them.....after he cuts off their program
Let's get this straight DACA was an executive order OBama invented. There is no legal basis for it. Trump wants Congress to handle it lawfully and gave them a deadline. That fucking judge overriding Trumps lawful presidential decision to discontinue DACA should be ignored and the judge impeached for interfering with Article 2 duties.

Or not. The government made these kids a promise. Trump is trying to renege on the promise. The judge is saying you can't renege on a promise that was made.

There's nothing stopping Congress from doing DACA other than Trump insistance on a wall that will never get built.

I think he was referring to the the three of them together as learning from it since he admitted he could have handled it better. Just my opinion.

What is really funny though is what comes out of Trump’s mouth, far more arrogant and insulting, but you aren’t bothered? Trump, the most powerful man in the world, as you noted, wants a “conversation” with a man he personallyattacked in public and another man who has publically heaped praise on Trump’s ego.
