Trump's future hangs in the balance: Possible charges as Classified Documents Probe may be announced after Memorial Day

Since Trump was President and had the legal right to take documents, witch hunt is totally correct, Broomhilda
No, he did not have a legal right to take government documents.

He especially didn't have a legal right to obstruct justice by lying about compliance with a grand jury subpoena.

And if there is, as is claimed, a long paper trail to the contrary, will you admit it?
A paper trail for documents? Is that some sort of a pun? A president has the right to declassify documents. A V.P. has no such right and Biden's stuff next to the corvette in the garage is a far more serious violation.

I guess that's a "no".

Okay, no surprise.

Declassification has nothing to do with it.

When the government tells you to give them back, you have to do it. Trump decided to play stupid games and now he's going to win stupid prizes.

Go get him. You should be asking congressional Republicans.

If he's guilty, nail him. Nail him good.

But you have to actually PROVE it, not just BELIEVE it. Kind of like the rigged election.
To prove it the DOJ and FBI have to cooperate. They are not.

You're a liar, the President has the power to instantly declassify documents, Trump had every legal right to take them whether you care or not, and your ignoring Biden spreading them through is home for decades shows you don't care, it's just you hate Trump and carve out imaginary standards to hold him to that you hold no one else to, particularly Democrats

A V.P. has no such right and Biden's
Let's take a trip down the VP memory lane

About declassification authority to the VP

Did Biden obstruct?

He had documents in numerous locations for long periods of time exposing them to far greater risk of exposure than Trump. Whether he "obstructed" or not has little to do with whether he had a bunch of classified documents he wasn't supposed to have in very unsecure spaces. If we are truly talking about who put national security at greater risk it was clearly Biden in this case, assuming the documents were of equal value from a national security standpoint, which we will never know.

He had the opportunity to take the DoJ to court and fight the subpoena, but he didn't.

Instead, he claimed to have complied with it when we both know that he didn't.

Meanwhile, Biden had classified documents all over his house from when he was a Senator and VP and had no ambiguity over whether he could take them, he couldn't.

Oh, but he was complying, they were finding them all over his house, he had no idea they were there! And you believe that, don't you? BTW, as senator, the only way out was to stick them down his pants and sneak them out. But you're silent about that too. Meanwhile, Trump, who had the power to take them whether you like it or not suddenly you want to get for it

Do you guys think Ron DeSantis will take advantage of the situation and paint Trump as a criminal if Trump is charged?
Bloomberg News has the development:

"Special Counsel Jack Smith is wrapping up his investigation into former president Donald Trump’s refusal to return classified documents after his election defeat and is poised to announce possible criminal charges in the days or weeks after Memorial Day, according to people familiar with the matter.

As Smith’s team winds down the classified documents probe, a separate inquiry into efforts by Trump and his allies to overturn the 2020 election continues, according to four people familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified discussing a confidential inquiry.

Trump’s associates believe the Justice Department’s investigation into documents taken from the White House after he left office is close to the end, said one of the people, but they don’t know if charges will be brought against the former president or anyone else.

Any indictments resulting from the roughly year-long investigation must be approved by Attorney General Merrick Garland and a federal grand jury.
I saw Trump at an earlier arraignment sitting at the defendants table with two uniformed bailiffs standing right behind him. It looked so right!

They're running the standard playbook, trying to equate Biden and Trump on the document stuff. Each handled it completely differently, and that has already come out.

Yup Biden's FBI and DOJ has treated them completely different. Kudos for that bit of honesty
