Twenty Shot In Chicago This Weekend

The funny thing is every time one of you loons post another story about gun violence you're actually only reinforcing the point of rational people who point out that our gun laws are not strong enough.

Keep up the good work.
The pseudo-rational people of whom you speak have difficulty with the FACT that criminals do not abide by the laws they write. Where the gun laws are tougher, the crime rate is the higher.

False. Plenty of other countries with tougher gun laws and lower gun violence.

Thanks for trying though, it was a cute effort.

And with America not making the top 100 list of countries ranked by murder rate, there are PLENTY of other countries with tougher gun laws and HIGHER murder rates.

Oops. Sorry the truth doesn't fit your agenda...

LOL...So more laws for criminals who obviously are ignoring the current ones considering they killed four people over the weekend? Yeah....that'll work.

Are you deranged?:cuckoo:

At least they disarmed the innocent citizens so they wouldn't be able to defend themselves and the city wouldn't have to do all that paper work.

Well, let's see about that. Chicago, with its toughest-in-the-nation gun control laws, saw 20 shot over the weekend. Chicago's population is about 2.7 million people.

The state of Nevada, with its lax gun laws, also has about 2.7 million people. Number of people shot over the weekend? Zero.

Similarly, the sate of Utah, with its REALLY lax gun laws, also has about 2.7 million people...none of which were shot over the weekend.

Any chance Chicago's problem is the people doing the shooting and not the firearms they're using??? You were saying something about "rational" people after all...
That's really an unfair comparison. Nevada and Utah have more to offer in the way of open space, scenery, farm land and comfortable, country lifestyle than Chicago with it's rat nests, gangs and crooked politicians. One would expect fewer killings of any kind. I think the crime rate is directly proportional to the population density.

Experiments with rats have shown that they will go psycho when confined to close quarters. People do the same.

It's illegal to own a handgun in the city of Chicago. That's about as restrictive a gun control law as we have in the U.S. right now.

LOL, That's the point. That's like saying someone is the tallest midget.

Our gun laws in this nation are too loose across the board. It doesn't matter which area is the strictest when none of them are strict enough.

We have enough gun laws.
The problem is that they are not enforced.
It makes no sense to have more laws ,when the laws we already have will not be enforced.

The Justice Department and the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives don’t prosecute thousands of federal gun crimes each year. According to the Chicago Tribune article, the most common one that officials miss is “paperwork” crime. This means that a criminal convict or someone with a record tries to purchase a gun and either lies or forgets to disclose something from their past. The background check that is conducted finds the buyer ineligible to purchase the gun, but he can be prosecuted for attempting to purchase. Although, some of the potential purchasers are law-abiding citizens and are not harmful, according to Michael Bouchard, who is a former ATF assistant director. He says that there needs to be more of a concentration on using your resources to see if there is potential that a violent crime could be committed. The FBI conducted 16.5 million background checks, 78,211 were denied eligibility but only 44 buyers were prosecuted.

When criminals start obeying the law, you may have a point.

What RDD s missing is that it is the crooks who have all the guns...

Let me finish your 'thought': "What RDD s missing is that it is the crooks who have all the guns" ... can buy them without background checks in Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa ... etc.

BTW, Guns kill people and guns are made to kill people. Let's not pretend otherwise. Of course guns are also used by people to hunt and to shoot at targets and to make some guys feel like they have a big penis.

Yea, we need gun laws as tough as Mexico's. Why just look at the peaceful nirvana that sprang forth in that country following the virtual ban on civilian firearm ownership. There's your model for "strict enough"...:cuckoo:

Funny, I didn't mention Mexico.

No, you didn't. You just made a plea for similar gun laws here.:cuckoo:

It doesn't matter. In Chicago, it is illegal to own a handgun. Therefore, it's not possible to have a handgun in Chicago because the law says it's not.

They have lower gun violence, but robbery and other crimes go up.

No, just the supposed need for stricter gun laws. Can't get any stricter than in Mexico, where it's virtually impossible for a civilian to possess a firearm. How's that working out? I bet the result is that only the criminals are armed...just like in Chicago.

If your argument that "the stricter the gun control, the less gun violence" was true, then Chicago would have less gun violence. It has more. You see the problem there, don't you?

But Chicago only has strict gun laws if you compare it to the rest of THIS nation which has some of the loosest gun laws in the world.

Again, that's like saying someone is the tallest midget. That doesn't make them tall in the global scheme of things, just taller than their fellow midgets.

I guess there are no criminals in Canada, or Japan, or Germany, or Australia, etc....Great point!

Right. Again, if your argument that "the stricter gun control, the lesser the gun violence" held true, then Chicago would have less gun violence than it's neighbors in the same nation. It doesn't.

Then Mexico is a nation of giants. Working out so very well for them...:doubt:
