How long did it take us to conquer Iraq?

Putin's plan was to occupy parts of Ukrainian Ukraine and at best get a new regime in power more tractable, and at minimum to get the more Russian provinces formally turned over to him via treaty.

He probably assumed a 2-3 week campaign, and didn't get it.

I agree there is some western expanding of the situation, but to me Russia was losing as soon as it got stuck in month 4 or so of this.

The same Iraq we spent 20 years in? That strategy didn't work out so well, did it? Putin's plan hasn't changed, it was never going to be a quick war. You defeat the West by bleeding them over time. The American public will not support an endless blank check to Ukraine, the US cannot justify the expense beyond a year at most. Not to mention that Ukraine takes a back burner if something else comes up, like Korea or the Middle East. The only people that even talked about a short war were Westerners attempting to paint Putin's plans as ineffective. That was clearly untrue.

Just remember the so-called experts you believe also said the Russians were out of ammo six or seven months ago.
