US Steel firing up furnance in Alabama thanks to Trump tariffs!

What happens if a new trade deal results in a steel market that makes the plant unprofitable? Tariffs have to end sometime.
President Trump won't accept a trade deal if it hurts the steel industry again, which is why he did the tariffs to begin with. That would make no sense.
There will be winners and losers in any trade deal. Our ag sector is probably much larger than our steel sector, at some point a calculation will be made by trade negotiators to get the best overall deal which may quite possibly give major concessions on steel to get a better deal on ag products. It's all conjecture but now is not the time to declare victory, we still do not have a real trade agreement with China.

U.S. Steel Firing Up Furnace in Alabama, Thanks to Tariffs

Awesome! Great job President Trump! This will help put A LOT of black's back to work as well!

adding 150 jobs, after loosing 20,000 to steel tariffs is no victory

U.S. Steel is bringing back 500 workers, but tariffs could cost thousands of jobs

Tariffs are needed to build new factories. It will be a process. It took us a long time to get here. We have to become more self sufficient in many areas. Even if it does not get back to the heydays.
Tariffs protect what we have but no tariff can reasonably be high enough to incentivize building an industry from scratch. They could put a 100% tariff on TVs but we still would not start building new TV factories.

The manufacturer also cited improving market conditions, union support and government incentives for the decision.

This is not a jobs winner. 2,000 jobs were lost when the blast furnace closed. 200 created with th new electric furnace.

20,000 lost to tariffs.

That said...any time we build this kind of manufacturing infra structer in this county it is a good thing
