What is "Trickle Down Economics"?

It's not evidence, it's just a plain fact.

It's actually not. I personally doubt you know hundreds of German engineers.

Not that you know me either, and I haven't changed my mind on anything, but what he told me in our PM discussion on the topic I have no idea how he would know if he wasn't pretty connected in IBM as he said he was. I was in GE Power management in the 2000+ range and we negotiated with IBM to do some work for us. He wasn't in that group, but he knows the organization and the main issue we had with them.

He might be and have been. And he might know of units of German companies that were spared layoffs. BUt I doubt he knows hundreds of German engineers.
It is all irrelevant anyway, comparing economies of two countries during a downturn like that.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear enough. At least not clear enough for you. Read this again please. " The reality is that Capitalism doesn't even exist". I specifically bolded "that" so it would be obvious I thought they were espousing a "fairy dusted" capitalism that doesn't exist. I'm quite aware that capitalism in many shades of grey does exist and if you spoke to any friend of mine they would tell you I'm some kind of successful capitalist in my own right. No where near the Plutocrat benchmark of course. I don't see things in black and white. I do see that a successful mix of the best of capitalism and the best of socialism is possible. Now go ahead and disagree with that. No need to put words I didn't say in my mouth again I hope.

So capitalism does not exist even though capitalism exists in many forms.
Thanks for clarifying.

The idea that government provides "protections" is delusional. Government is the parasite. Free markets provide the ultimate protections.

There are no absolutes here. Our government has the job of providing protections to encourage a strong free market economy. You are correct to disparage their efforts in doing so. Yes, this government is a parasite. Free markets, in and of themselves do not have inherit checks and balances. The big bully on the block can put blockades in front of progress, just as easy as governments can. We need checks and balances. We used to have more checks and balances. We became successful and set the bar. Other countries have now met our challenge. We are no longer the Goliath at the top of the mountain... Stuff happens.

If by know you mean in the biblical sense... then no, I did not have sex with any of the German engineering group in my team of 2k engineers that was split over ten different locations in 6 different countries.

I wasn't comparing economies I was comparing impacts to American jobs.

So providing protections is encouraging a strong free market?
What planet have you been living on? What have you been smoking? That's the most absurd thing I've read on this site in the last hour.

So you dont personally know thousands of German engineers. Thank you for admitting to lying.
I realize you werent comparing economies. Because that would have blown your thesis.

Actually, yes they do.

The big bully on the block can put blockades in front of progress, just as easy as governments can.

Really? How?

We need checks and balances.

Where's the check on government?

We used to have more checks and balances. We became successful and set the bar. Other countries have now met our challenge. We are no longer the Goliath at the top of the mountain... Stuff happens.

Rhetorical hand waving.

There are good protections and bad protections. Stopping companies from starting a dust bowl is a good protection. Stopping countries from product dumping to "buy" a market and run our companies out of business is a good protection. Stopping criminals from going from corporation to corporation with guns killing the owners and / or forcing them to pay for "protection" is a good protection.

A free market cannot exist without some level of protection.

Why woud any company want to create a dust bowl?

Stopping countries from product dumping to "buy" a market and run our companies out of business is a good protection.

That's an old interventionist myth. It never happens. What happens is that other countries can produce certain goods cheaper than we can. Then all American producers engaged in that industry go out of business. The workers are freed up to go to other industries where we have an advantage.

Stopping criminals from going from corporation to corporation with guns killing the owners and / or forcing them to pay for "protection" is a good protection.

Multi billion dollar corporations can easily provide their own security, and most do. The police only show up after the carnage has already occured.

A free market cannot exist without some level of protection.

You're naive if you believe government provides any real protection.

You've never heard of dust bowls?
You've never heard of or seen product dumping?
Only multi-billion dollar corporations should exist, the rest can go fuck themselves?
You've never seen a cop, or a federal investigation or racketeering?

Are you on acid?

1) I still haven't explained my statement with sufficient clarity.
2) You are epically dumb and/or obstinate.

The inability to communicate clearly is the sign of a disordered mind.

Where's the check on government?

You ok? It used to be the Senate, who's leaders were assigned by the State legislatures.

It obviously hasn't worked. So what do you suggest not?

It used to work. The 17th amendment put the voters in charge of the Senate. The voters vote against the other side, not for good senators. My suggestion is to put the senate back to being run by the state legislatures.

He's wrong about Germany anyway. They are suffering and their companies are chafing at the rules.

What part about the rules in Germany was I wrong about? First you say I'm wrong then you say corporations are chafing at the rules you say don't exist. Which is it? I'm right or wrong?

Corporations complaining about not being able to fire their employees to replace them with Chinese labor at 1/4 the the price, well duh!

I suppose you want us all to be living in micro apartments like they do in china have us paying our engineers 15 bucks an hour. What a load of crap. Like I said before let's offshore YOUR JOB FIRST THIS TIME OK?
