What's wrong with smart guns?

hasn't seemed to work with the Japanese or the Scandinavians.

Yep, but in states with lax gun laws suicide rates are higher.

Guns and suicide: A fatal link

So? Explain to me how the Japanese and the Scandinavians have higher suicide rates than us without guns.

I don't know, that's your point to prove.

In the meantime, read the link. States with lax gun law are really good at offing themselves.

No. That is a fact. That is a fact that blows your contention right out of the water.

What is? And why the awkward spacing in your posts?

Japan has a culture of suicide. Wyoming has a culture of suicide compared to other US states.

The US is projected this year to have more gun deaths than auto deaths. That's not good, driving is one of the most dangerous activities Americans partake in on a daily basis.

The point being that anyone who truly wishes to commit suicide will do so. The evidence is overwhelming....and all things considered death by firearm is a far more humane way to go than hanging and has no possibility of collateral damage like an airplane or a car.

Provide some evidence to that. And by the way, a person contemplating suicide with a gun is not a safe environment to be in.

You really are a retard aren't you. What happens when the bad guy decides he isn't going to stop? Hmmm?

Well that is very unlikely to happen. And as the link I posted showed smart guns are over 99% so you would still be fine. Me and most the people I know do not carry a gun and have been fine. Stop being so scared.

Your link is wildly optimistic. The best rate tested by a non biased source is 90% reliable. And that company is now out of business.

Even using your 90% number you are still quite safe. You are first very unlikely to be attacked in some way. Second your are extremely unlikely to need to fire a gun. And last you still have 90% chance it will fire. You are so scared that isn't enough for you? Are you a little bunny?

What is your non biased source?

Bullshit. Take ten cookies. Coat one with cyanide. Place in bowl and have someone else mix them. Choose one and eat it. An intellectually honest person would agree that those are not favorable odds WITH YOUR LIFE!

But we know that you are not intellectually honest so have fun with your retarded circle jerk.

Please. What percent do you put on you being attacked and needing to fire there little bunny? Why is it I know so many people that are completely unarmed and they aren't scared?

It doesn't matter jackass. If there is a one tenth of one percent chance that I will need a gun and it won't work that is too much. The fact that you're mentally deficient doesn't alter the fact that I value my life and I will make sure that I have the best possible equipment to protect it. Guns don't enjoy a 0.00005% failure rate. I'm not sure of the exact number, but I know it's much higher than that.

Interesting. I've been around guns my whole life, and never had one fail. Not one.

Perhaps you're lucky. The military only uses the best and most reliable weapons. Here's part of a report on the M4 from late 2002. There were many malfunctions, including 20 percent of users experiencing a double feed, 15 percent experiencing feeding jams, and 13 percent saying that feeding problems were due to magazines. 20 percent of users were dissatisfied with weapon maintenance. Some had trouble locking the magazine into the weapon and having to chamber a round in order to lock the magazine.

Those are all magazine failures. Take a look at the failure rate for PMAGS. It's non existent which is why operators use those.

A failure keeps it from firing doesn't it?

Japan and Scandinavia are my evidence. Murder suicides are not run of the mill suicides so yet again you are wrong. Try again.

Firearm Access is a Risk Factor for Suicide

Twelve or more U.S. case control studies have compared individuals who died by suicide with those who did not and found those dying by suicide were more likely to live in homes with guns.

For example, Brent and colleagues studied three groups of adolescents: 47 suicide decedents, 47 inpatient attempters, and 47 psychiatric inpatients who had never attempted suicide. Those who died by suicide were twice as likely to have a gun at home than either of the other two groups.

Smart guns, which will only shoot with the owner's fingerprint, would prevent children from shooting themselves and others, and thieves and criminals couldn't use them. Gun rights advocates will say they are a form of gun control and a violation of the second amendment rights. I say abide by the second amendment by owning a musket. When rapid fire guns were invented no gun rights person refused to use them because they weren't muskets. Time changes everything. As for hacking a smart gun, you're more likely to have your phone or computer hacked and that doesn't stop people from using them. And they worry that the government will "track" them. So? We've been tracked for years and it hasn't made an iota of difference in our lives.
They cost too much money.

it's apples and oranges. What would their suicide rate be with guns? You can't possibly know.

So, in the U.S. find a study that shows there is no correlation between guns and suicide.

Yes, it does, and the M-16 magazine, as designed, was meant to be used once and then discarded. Budget issues got in the way of that but the government has never mandated a redesign. Operators use PMAGS because they work. Many soldiers I know buy their own PMAGS and take then with them on deployment. In other words it is a preventable failure. The smart guns are not preventable.

I know....the facts, the truth and reality show you have no argument...Japan, South Korea and China....and apparently Scandinavia all have suicide rates higher than ours...a lot higher...and they don't have access to guns......especially in Japan, South Korea and China....

And 19,000 Americans also committed suicide without guns......

They have to take intentionally illegal actions with guns, intentional self harm with guns to get even close to accidents with cars....

Gun accidental death in 2013.... 505

Car accidental death in 2013... 35,000

And Japanese, South Koreans, Chinese and Scandinavians are really good at offing themselves without guns.....better than we are with guns.........just another thing foreigners do better than Americans...thanks obama....

And? We dont' have the highest suicide rate. But our suicide rate is where it is due in part to the number of guns we have and how wreckless we are with them.

There are over 357 million guns in private hands, and over 13 million people actually carry guns on their person........ and a grand total of 505 accidental gun deaths in 2013....

In what way can you call that being wreckless with guns?

I don't need to. You claim that absence of guns reduces suicide rates. We have loads of evidence to the opposite. Science demands that YOU prove your point. All I need to do is provide one bit of factual data that refutes your assertion and I am the winner. That's called the scientific method. You should look it up.

I don't have to, gjuns don't make a difference in the greater suicide rate in Japan, South Korea and China....and they don't make a difference in the 19,000 suicides in this country that do not use guns....

You can use anti gun biased medical research all you want, it doesn't change the truth, facts or reality.

It doesn't matter jackass. If there is a one tenth of one percent chance that I will need a gun and it won't work that is too much. The fact that you're mentally deficient doesn't alter the fact that I value my life and I will make sure that I have the best possible equipment to protect it. Yes it does matter. You are really scared and paranoid. You are aware there are only about 1.5 million violent crimes each year right? We are a country of over 300 million. Right there your chance of being a victim is just a fraction of a percent. Then you can figure many of the victims are involved in criminal activity. So if you aren't its a lower tiny fraction of a percent for you. And in murders most people are killed by a friend or family so you wouldn't be given a chance to use your gun anyhow. And you gun guys insist in like 99.999% of the time the gun doesn't need to be fired for a defense. So you are this scared and paranoid about miniscule fraction of a percent chance you will need to shoot? And then even with your ridiculous claim you still have 90% chance? And keep in mind the better source I used says they are over 99%. Wow you are timid, you need therapy. Imagine how you would be in someplace like Iraq that isn't so safe.
