When references are made to institutionalized racism, this is what is meant.

It doesn't mean overt, extreme racism is rampant in America. It's existence is much more subtle and insidious than that. Some people may exhibit signs of racism subconsciously.
Some pertinent information seems to be lacking. Where are these businesses located. What ethnicity was the HR professional in charge of hiring. I believe these companies were quite possibly white-owned or in ethnically white areas. Not that those issues should make any difference, but don't you think the results would be opposite if it was a black HR professional, black owned business or in an ethnically black area?

Notice what the feds say

Not me, the federal government

Blacks are less able to pass a literacy test than whites
What I saw was that reading proficiency was not a requirement for those jobs.

What Researchers Discovered When They Sent 80,000 Fake Résumés to U.S. Jobs

A group of economists recently performed an experiment on around 100 of the largest companies in the country, applying for jobs using made-up résumés with equivalent qualifications but different personal characteristics. They changed applicants’ names to suggest that they were white or Black, and male or female — Latisha or Amy, Lamar or Adam.

On Monday, they released the names of the companies. On average, they found, employers contacted the presumed white applicants 9.5 percent more often than the presumed Black applicants.

Yet this practice varied significantly by firm and industry. One-fifth of the companies — many of them retailers or car dealers — were responsible for nearly half of the gap in callbacks to white and Black applicants.

Two companies favored white applicants over Black applicants significantly more than others. They were AutoNation, a used car retailer, which contacted presumed white applicants 43 percent more often, and Genuine Parts Company, which sells auto parts including under the NAPA brand, and called presumed white candidates 33 percent more often.

What is much more difficult to measure than the job discrimination this study reveals is the affect on blacks in America. To what extent has it caused the economic and educational disparities that exist given what some call systemic racism has been going on for centuries.

Bub...after a while the blacks have to look at themselves for the problem and not the evil whites. But it never seems to sink in.

I see you have a chosen a popular form of denial among conservatives. If you don't like the findings of a study, question its legitimacy. Kinda like what happened when Trump and his minions didn't like the outcome of the 2020 election.
Among "conservatives"? Obviously, you have NOT been paying attention.

OPINION. We have been around for 80+ years,
And it looks like most just are not able to be Honest when it when talking about Black people.
Spent about half our lives in a Very liberal state. The discrimination mostly largely settled around housing.
We just had no idea just how bad it was in other parts of our country. Early in 1960 in a trip to Louisiana,
We stayed in hotels with big painted yellow lines in front of drinking fountains WHITES ONLY.
ON the road bathrooms just White men woman. and some times just a ditch behind, was the COLORED spot.
What we REALLY need to talk about is what the housing discrimination has created.

Wow, look at that. It's been 50 years since those dark days yet you still point to them as if those signs are still there.

What is certain is that any company that preferred the "Black named" applicants over the White named applicants was discarded as an "outlier".

I’ve often wondered why dark ’parents’ would curse their children for life by giving them a ‘dark name’ in a racist white nation. Why go with Humberto and JaQuan when they could have gone with Harry and Jason?
Do they want their children to be judged on their name?

Here's something for the deniers to keep in mind. To generalize, white people have increasingly thrown up their arms in outrage over what they consider to be unfair hiring practices that black people have dealt with since the end of slavery.

Yeah, I'm sure that's it. Cuz, you know, black parents want to give their kids the least chance of getting out from under the burden of racism as is possible. That's just how they are, right?

So when there was rampant bigotry against Irish or Italian folks they should have changed their. Names to Smith?

Good to know

Quick question. Are you trolling or are you serious?

No. They should have lobbied government for laws to force everyone to like them.

The hiring statistics are the hiring statistics no matter how you try to spin them.

Why do you suppose Asian immigrants change their names to something more ‘American’?
Is it because they’re smart enough to know how to properly assimilate and the importance of fitting in?
