As a rule, Americans are not taught introspection. We are are not taught the value of sitting down, being quite. and listening to ourselves and others.

We have to be on the go all of the time. In most religions, it's make-work; singing, kneeling, bowing, listening to some guy on stage babble and harangue them, whatever, which is why I applaud people like the Quakers and the Buddhists who sit quietly and think.

The view of history that most of us are taught is one of speaking only of the good things, and leaving the bad things out, rather than debating what was good and what was bad. Notice the trend (hopefully on it's way out) of portraying every group of people who were treated badly or suffered some sort of deprivation in our history were actually "happy."

I have plenty of introspection. On these very boards I have had my country disparaged. Sometimes I have even agreed with the criticism. Right-wing neocon whackos won't tolerate zero, zilch, nada, criticism of their country. "We can do no wrong" is their mantra, or my personal favourite "We gave you assistance/bailed you out here and there/blah, blah, blah. How dare you criticise us!!!" In other words, because you see yourself as the "good guy" in the world (in a lot of cases you certainly are, in others, not so much) doesn't mean you are not above being critiqued when it is warranted. And THAT is the point of this thread.

I don't care what you THINK about Trump being misogynistic. The fact is, he is. Just because you don't think he is, doesn't mean he isn't.
I do have a caveat on voting for him. If you voted him to be anti-Hillary or because he was a Republican candidate that is okay. But his manifesto? Bleh.
