The economy is limping along and pay has not increased for most, and for many it's gone down. Only the most fantical cannot see that the media, not only in america but across the developed world, pushes a right wing agenda to a greater or lesser degree. There are exceptions of course, but only a few.

Military spending and prison spending. When you house 4 percent of the world's human but 22 percent of the world's prisoners then you have to take a look and say that maybe if there werent so many damn people being locked up on the tax payers dime then a bit more money could be used to provide tax breaks for the poor, tax breaks for businesses so they can create more jobs and maybe even provide the odd hand out programme for the very needy.

Only around $0.17 of every federal subsidy dollar goes to people that are actually poor (so you can figure out where the rest goes) and the poor are the hardest hit by the distribution effects of inflation which is largely a product of the fed printing money to buy up federal debt. The pressures of life deny people the freedom to go job shopping.
People are under lots of pressure to take any damn job they can get to avoid getting evicted.
Americans are living at almost a starvation level.
Over 80% of people have NO SAVINGS ACCOUNT.
The AVERAGE American has over $10,000 in credit card debt.
Many people pay one credit card with another credit card.
Especially when they are between jobs.

Millions of people live in smaller towns where the ONLY jobs are working in a grain elevator, or the local Wal-Mart and there IS no job choice.
