I know that there is no such thing as a perfect parent, but how in the heck can a person forget about a child in such a way...or in any way???

No I have never been a parent, but the fact that I do have two parents is where whatever knowledge it is that I happen to have comes from and to me, something like this is what happens when the children are not put first and in my opinion, the top of their parents' priority list is where children should always be.
