100 bikers show up to greet bullied boy with Down syndrome on his first day of school

"A fleet of more than 16 bikers escorted Sean Maehrer to his first day of class at Salisbury High School in Salisbury Township.

The 16-year-old has Down syndrome and has been bullied at school in the past. After his family posted on Facebook that they were worried about him starting school this year and getting taunted, a local motorcycle club volunteered and picked the teen up at his house at 6 a.m. to show their support."

Hooray for them! Hope Sean had a great deal and that it will lead to a great year.

BTW, why didn't school officials do something about this bullying in Middle School? All school officials have a responsibility to see that all students are treated with respect by other students. JMO

It seems rather randomly enforced...You know the game...

Parents of bullies are usually themselves bullies.

Exactly, where was the school in this to begin with?

I have a 7th grader with asperger autism. Hats off to these bikers. This act of theirs alone will make a big difference in this kid's life I'm sure.

good for them

I never agreed with the idea but my son intentionally pick a fight with the biggest bully when he began middle school and high school. Smaller kids that had been bullied made friends with my son and the bullies never bothered my son or the those students when my son was around. A few kids offered him their money for protecting them but he would not take it. He made his point the most of the students were better for it. He was a bit of a pied piper when I would visit the school.
When I did have to go for a problem, it was usually no belt or shirt untucked.
He was home schooled over the phone for a year and a half when he grew so fast he had fainting spells and the school did not want the liability. He still tried to make himself seen near the campus most days since we lives so near.

There is a logic to standing up to the bullies in school.

The school authorities are probably afraid of what the bully's parents might do in retaliation. You know how most parents are these days. They don't think that their child could ever be guilty of bullying and if their child gets accused of it, out come the lawsuits, protests, etc.

God bless you and that boy and his new friends always!!!

Holly

P.S. May that boy be left alone now that it is known just who exactly is a member of his camp. :) :) :)
