Night of the long knives was Hitler wiping out opposition within his own infrastructure. The brownshirts and the SA.

He wiped out the communists and social democrats before the NotLK. The Reichstag fire and the subsequent Leipzig Trial is what Hitler used to go after the communists and socialists.
