Babbitt was never within fifteen feet of Byrd. There were other cops in the same general vicinity and they didn't fire. But That the issue in context was not just how close she was to Lt. Byrd, it was immediate access to the House Chamber.

There were other cops in the same general vicinity and they didn't fire.

Try again, look at the video and stills when the shooting happened, there were no other law enforcement officers in the "general vicinity" of that barrier in the Speakers Lobby. There were some officers at the OTHER END of the hall, but would not have been able to stop the mob from accessing the Chamber.

If it had been any other person but Pelosi's own police force member, they would be in jail along with Chauvin.

If it was any other riot at the capital, Lt. Byrd would have received the Congressional Medal of Freedom for his brave and controlled actions that day.
