Atheists win right to pass out materials at Florida high schools - Washington Times

If the Christians get to do it, then so should we. That was the winning argument of atheists who fought for access to several Florida high schools to distribute group documents — same as evangelicals did with Bibles in January.

“We want to close the door to religion in schools, not open it to Freethought,” said David Williamson, an organizer with the Central Florida Freethought Community, the Orlando Sentinel reported. “[But] if they’re going to have a religious discussion on campus, we need to be a part of it.”

How can an atheist be a part of a religious discussion?

That's a perfect example of what happens when we put "God back into the schools," but too many Evangelical activist's don't understand that if God can come in, so can Gaia or Buddha or Krishna or Muhammad or...no God at all.

That's freedom of religion folks. It doesn't just apply to protestant Christian's.

Theophobes promoting theophobia. How quaint.

Who cares?

Interesting that atheism is being treated like a religion, though.

disruptive?

so some beliefs are disruptive?

what makes one belief disruptive and not the other?

You people need to realize that many many people dont believe the archaic human beliefs and instead look to sceince to explain the world.

sceince has a much better record of truth than religion does

How can an atheist be a part of a religious discussion?

Same way an artist can discuss science, or a scientist can discuss ballet.

And atheists have beliefs also. If you believe all things should be proven by science before teaching them as truth, that counts as a belief. All beliefs, theist or nontheist, are protected equally under religious freedom in the First Amendment.

If religious freedom only protected members of "organized religions with names,"
that would be discrimination in violation of the 1st and 14th Amendments; it would offer more protection of large groups, and fail to protect minority beliefs [such as my beliefs in universal salvation which is not widely recognized or understood as including secular gentiles/nontheists equally as believers/theists in a spiritual process for all humanity].

This is one thing I found conflicting with the ACA health care bill, is that it puts such limited
restrictions on which person(s) qualify for exemptions based on arbitrarily-defined conditions on their membership with a religious group, that it constitutes govt regulating and discriminating on the basis of religion, which is unconstitutional.

The problem I have with atheist groups suing or pushing to defend their own views from discrimination is when they go too far, and start imposing or discriminating themselves. For example, when the atheists sue to removed crosses, they tend to argue using ONE interpretation of Christianity that excludes Atheists, so this discriminates against Christians who believe in and teach universal salvation as including Buddhists, Atheists, and other secular gentiles under natural laws as fulfilled in Christ Jesus without having to convert.

The atheists and theists I don't have these conflicts with are equally inclusive of theists and nontheists, Christians and nonchristians, and attempt to respect and include ALL religious or nonreligious, even political beliefs as I do under equal protection of freedom.

If you are going to forgive Christians for pushing their faith too far, the same holds for Atheists who push too far and start excluding or discriminating against other beliefs, too. We are human, and we learn by interacting in context, so this is part of the learning curve.
At some point, people figure out that the Golden Rule applies, and if you want religious freedom and free speech, you must also respect the same of others to the same degree.

You need to realize that science is not pholosophy or religion.

Atheists like this guy are total retards.

He is running around try to convince people not to believe in something he doesn't believe in. :cuckoo:

Seriously, he needs to get a hobby.........

Proslytizing by religious or atheist groups should be prohibited on tax-supported ground.

Atheism, religious studies, comparative religions, etc., should be taught as subjectively objectively and openly in HS classrooms.

Actually--science is a philiosophy --but not the in the same category as religion.

Science focus on how the physical world works
Religion is a mixture of Metaphysics and Ethics
