BREAKING: Shooting at Ft. Hood

Notice how many right wingers are ignorant of how military bases are ran and why soldiers don't tote loaded weapons around the bases?? If they did there would be more murders...

Yeah, strict gun control really appears to be working on our military bases.

Ivan Lopez was certainly prevented from shooting people.

Oooops.....

What was your point? That the law of strict gun control works? Wow!

The rule At Fort Hood is that ALL guns must be registered and cannot be carried without authorization.
The gun used in the recent tragedy was recently purchased and not registered.
So...if it was registered at the point of purchase and there was a system for daily checks on firearm status...that may have helped.
Incidentally, although the shooter was not a combat soldier, he drove a truck in Iraq during the drawdown..with the clear danger of IEDs and other stress.
He had mental and emotional issues.
All of this argues FOR GUN REGISTRATION with systems to periodically check for it ...and FOR MENTAL HEALTH AND CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS before a gun can be purchased...not against.

Even after we granted the Rep. of Ireland independence, men and women from Ireland are welcome to serve in Britain's armed forces, but since the troubles in Ulster it has always been made clear to potential recruits from Ireland that they face extensive and intrusive background checks to determine their loyalties and whether or not something from their past would render them vulnerable to blackmail. It takes several months and I know for a fact that investigators are so thorough that they ask recruits' parents what kind of pornography they suspect their son or daughter enjoys watching. And these were all White Catholics. So I see no reason why Muslim recruits shouldn't undergo an equally intrusive vetting procedure. Although I hasten to add that I believe all Muslims should be deported from Britain, and if I were American the same attitude would apply to Muslims in America.

Shame on you, your grandaddy probably uwent to war against that sort of beahvoir and now you support it.

the Mail Online is reporting

Today's gunfire comes just days after it was revealed the FBI was on the lookout for a recent Army recruit who it believes was planning a 'jihad against U.S. soldiers' inspired by the 2009 Ford Hood massacre.
According to an alert sent out by the FBI's Kansas City Division on Friday, they are searching for a man identified as Booker who had told friends of his 'intention to commit jihad.'
Booker, also known as Muhammad Abdullah Hassan, was recruited by the U.S. Army in Kansas City, Montana, in February 2014 and was scheduled to report for basic training on April 7.

BREAKING NEWS: At least one dead in shooting at Fort Hood military base | Mail Online

Ah. So MSNBC did say the right name. Booker aka Hassan.

They did but it turns out to be a lie - that's the mail of you.
Pity you were too stupid to realise the mail prints any shit they think they can get away with.

Heres a picture of the Daily Mail's founder with one of his chums.

MP's carry loaded side arms, but soldiers going to a medical center do not...

All recruits go through an FBI background check...

Have you ever been in the military??

Rather than make this about muslims or gun control, we can start a discussion about the increasing need for treatment for our returning soldiers?

PTSD is a serious issue.

British personnel didn't go to war with Nazi Germany out of any sympathy with anyone suffering under prejudices held by Nazi leadership. They were sent to war because Axis powers posed a direct threat to the Empire's power and interests, and London would fight any challenge to its global dominance. Just like America does now.

PTSD is a serious issue.

Or perhaps we should take a page from the military's 'book' and pragmatically 'go about our lives'---allow the military to deal with the problem at hand?

They can and they will.

I think I have a pretty good grasp of whatever facts already--'this should not have happened', but it did. I had to admire Gen Milley--commander of Fort Hood, if that is the appropriate term--'Do you think guns should be allowed on military bases?"--His response, 'No, I do not.' and moved right along to the next question.

If CNN has time to fill--certainly--100,000 minutes can be allotted for discussing 'Should guns be allowed on military bases'. Another 100,000 minutes can be sacrificed to whatever they can come up with.

He had psychological problems, was in the process of being treated and further diagnoses were probable. A critical time for anyone--he was young--in his 20's---probably had financial problems and every other kind of problem.

If more can be done in the future---then it should. On military bases and in civilian life. We/society--have discussed this before--I don't know what more can be said.

Considering that we are losing 22 young veterans a day to suicide (probably more), perhaps this will be a wake-up call that more needs to be done.

LMAO.....sounds like Piers Morgan tweet.......bubble dwellers from Oz.:D

Jackass administration learned nothing from Ft Hood 2009 massacre. Soldiers are sitting ducks.

And what stopped the madness yesterday? A female soldier with a sidearm.......meanwhile, the mental cases would prefer she be carrying a little sign that says, "PLEASE STOP!!"

Gun free zones should be re-labeled KILL ZONES!!

OR

"FREE FIRE ZONES"

Indeed it is. Equally so is the threat posed by al-Qaeda seeking to capture the hearts and minds of young military personnel with a view for them to harm their their colleagues.

I fully support any and all efforts to improve mental health--for the military--for all.

There is a Congressional hearing today--I believe military funding is a topic--or the topic. Sen Ted Cruz?/Texas--is the chairman--I think or maybe not? Serious discussions at that level may well be the best way to address this issue.

Analyzing 'what the military should have done/did not do'--and related topics is a futile task for me--I have minimal information on these issues.

As frightening--but a topic for another day--with the extreme budget cuts to defense--how can the military do what it needs to do--for personnel and then to defend the country if that should be needed?

Yes, more funding for the military would be a wise decision--if anyone of authority wants my opinion.

Is not Ft. Hood a military compound? Do not soldiers have weapons? I have never heard of a military fort that bans weapons.

Only the Military Police (MP's) can carry fire arms on Military installations unless you are training on the range or something.

Ft Hood does not have weapons???? That's kinda dumb isn't it?

Gracie Weapons are kept locked in the arms room. The only time they are issued is for training exercises but live ammo is not issued. They only fire live ammo at firing ranges and that is strictly supervised and regulated. Only Military Police carry live ammo on a routine basis. Soldiers on guard duty might be issued 5 rounds of live ammo. That has been the case for the past 100 years or more.

yeah, when I was on heliport guard duty at Ft. Hood we were given a pump shotgun and 3 rounds, to be kept in our pocket..

Barney Fife style!!!

When I stood topside watch in the Navy, we had 5 rounds for the .45. Our job was not to repel an invasion, but to die making as much noise as possible.
