Cigarette smoking on the increase

What do you mean?

Smoking and not wearing seatbelts has killed many, many people
But not as many as heart attacks (fast food) and diabetes (sugar).

If anyone was concerned about deaths from something, they would be more concerned with what kills the most, and then work down.

Take the abortion issue, "My body my choice". But when it comes to wanting to smoke, wanting to drive without a seat belt, of wanting to stand on a ladder for more than 15 minutes (Health & Safety in the UK dictates using scaffolding), there's such an uproar.

Now, they want to ban smoking in the UK because it costs the health service some £4bn per year, but the duty off tobacco sales generates over £14bn income. So the government are not business savvy.

But braalin, I'm not bothered about your health, and if you're bothered about mine, then I'm both flattered and equally advising you to not bother. My Body My Choice, or do we cherry pick on that slogan?

Edit : Abortion in the US kills millions per year, so ban abortion before smoking, sugar, fast food, and ladders.

Are you saying smoking and seatbelts should be completely unregulated?

I’m for seatbelt laws. How hard is it to put on a seatbelt? People protesting that are just being stubborn for the sake of being stubborn

As for smoking, I hope it’s never outright outlawed. But I also hope the days of being able to smoke on a plane or in a restaurant never come back

I do think bars and casinos should be allowed to permit smoking if they want. Those have always been places where if you don’t like smoke then don’t go

As for banning fast food or sugary foods, you know that simply isn’t feasible

Vice-taxing fast food is a good idea though

Unregulated? No, common sense regulations should be applied to 99% of things. The design of a seat belt can be regulated, if you want to use it or not use it is your choice. By all means smoke, but common sense dictates not in an area where none smokers could inhale the smoke.

The duty on tobacco in the UK is quite high, apart from vat (sales tax at 20%) there's no duty on a McDonalds meal. More die from obesity issues than smoking, so why isn't there tobacco equivalent duty placed on the likes of McDonalds?

I don’t miss it
Those bars were more than one or two people smoking but the entire bar being smoke filled
You came out with your clothes and hair stinking of cigarettes
I think it’s awesome that we made bars a more comfortable place to get loaded before you killed someone on the road or went home and beat your wife.

Yeah, good times.

Yeah but that’s why bars should be able to choose

Kind of depends on the clientele the bars caters to. Gritty dive bars cater mostly to people who mostly smoke themselves and could care less. Many only smoke when out drinking anyway
