Civil Asset Forfeiture needs to be abolished.

Someone tell me how it is different for a criminal to scam a family out of money, and the police who seize the money under the color of law?

Cleveland family suing on claims CBP seized life-savings at airport

Why hasn’t either Party come out against this? Simple, they live in terror of being labeled soft on crime. So these abominations, these thefts, continue uninterrupted.

Yeah, the cops are out there protecting us, from the dangers inherent in the life savings of a family. Thank God the cops are out there doing the job, what would we do if this man had been able to keep his damned money.
You'll have to ask the blue blooders who say police do no wrong about this one. Don't try to twist it to the left's doing and problem.

Democratic states are also doing it. Democratic cities are doing it. This isn’t a problem where the Right existed solely. One of the most vocal groups opposing it is CATO which is more Libertarian. This is an issue that has elements of the Right and Left opposed. But the Politicians on both sides are mute. The answer to that is the incorrect lesson learned from Dukakis. Thou shall not appear soft on crime.

Indeed the practice is antithetical to American values but continues. It isn’t a Liberal or Conservative problem. It isn’t a Democratic or Republican problem. It is an American Problem.

It’s a political problem, to be solved via the political process, not judicial.

The American people need to petition their elected representatives to amend or repeal asset forfeiture laws.

ABsolutely.
However it doesn't need to end, just needs totally overhauled with very specific limitations and the right of a speedy trial.
Today, anywhere in the U.S., you are taking a considerable risk if you carry more than $10,000 in cash. The police can simply take it from you - just because you have it. That is unconstitutional if anything is.
Wrong.

That’s not how forfeiture laws work.

Clearly the problem is ignorance of the law – one cannot oppose a law he has no understanding of.

And yet again, asset forfeiture laws are Constitutional – if you don’t like it dig up Chief Justice Rehnquist and argue it with him.

Dig up Dred Scott and ask him about the infallibility of the Supreme Court.

Or they petition the court to revisit their previous decisions on the matter. Why doesn't that option fit in your head?

Is that because Justice Thomas has indicated he has issues with Civil Asset Forfeiture?

STILL more creeping fascism.

OK "creeping" isn't the right word. We're long past that by now.

Cue the board fascisti currently hanging in the NFL threads making excuses for Big State over there to ooze in and pile on the victims here, in four... three... two....

That you think I would not support the Right to Property of these people, after weeks of discussion with me, shows how incredibly close minded you are.

You are an ignorant fool.

What on earth are you babbling about? This has nothing to do with the NFL. The NFL is not a big state. They are a sports organization that provides a service to paying customers. Stop acting like a moron for once, will ya?

Just another leftist nutbar is all. Lol.

I figured you guys would droll over Big State stomping on people, since y'all seem to like that shit.

But if that's not the case, then by all means elaborate on how it's not two versions of the same belligerence. How is it you guys purport to be on the side of the people here and on the side of Big State there?

Not exactly consistent is it.

The flag is not the symbol of the government, but of the nation as a whole.

This was discussed at great length.

Pretending to not know that, is you being a liar.

I will not carry more than $100 in cash.

While I dont agree with asset seizure unless it's totally clear the money was obtained through illegal actions say like a drug dealer without a job.
I wouldnt however carry that much money knowing the laws regarding asset seizures.
In which case you agree with asset forfeiture laws, because they function only in the context of unlawful activity.

Horse shit.

And you may carry around as much money as you want – you won’t be subject to asset forfeiture, although you might end up the victim of a crime if a criminal knows you’re carrying a great deal of money.
Irrelevant to the topic.

"Civil Asset Forfeiture needs to be abolished"

Yes they do, and should have never existed at all

Thank Ronald Reagans war on drugs. Back in the 80's local prosecutors were confiscating parents, and grand parents homes, if their kids or grandkids were caught selling their buddies a joint. This was widely praised by the Reagan worshippers. And as you can see in this story, nothing has changed. Notice how it didn't get used against bankers and hedgefund managers during the crash in 2008? Or any bankers or corporations that hide their money in offshore accounts? Hopefully we are going to get to see it with the state of New York, if they decide to go after Trump and his cronies and their money laundering.

Total bullshit , These laws were past in the '80's under Reagan, but the purpose was to stop drug kingpins from using their vast wealth from selling drugs on their defense. As you know American need a fair trial and some of these guys were spending $10's of million on their trials and appeals and American lawyers the moral group as they are, were eager to take the money. Once it was figured out that the arresting and prosecuting entity would receive the lion's share of the forfeited assets, it became a for profit business and anybody was subject to civil forfeiture.

Same thing with private for profit prisons.
