Coke is raising soda prices because of aluminum tariffs

'America's favorite soda is the latest victim of the Trump administration's tariffs.
Coca-Cola (CCE) has hiked prices on its carbonated drinks because the recently enacted 10% tariff on imported aluminum has made Coke cans more expensive to produce.

CEO James Quincey admitted on the company's earnings call Wednesday that the hike was "disruptive" but necessary.

"Obviously, while [customers] may understand the cost pressures that are out there on freight, on the increases in steel and aluminum and other input costs that affect the bottling system and affects some of our finished products, clearly, these conversations are difficult," he said on the call.'

Sure, it's only going to be a small rise...but this is what tariffs do. They make things more expensive without making the product the slightest bit better.
So the consumer loses.

And again, forget lots of long term jobs. No corporation is going to built a huge, new plant for increased production JUST for a tariff that could end any day.

Trade wars have NEVER worked. Most economists/CEO's know this...unfortunately, Trump doesn't.

All you lefties oughta be dancing in the streets!

Coke is not good for us. You've been screaming that for decades. Sugar. Empty calories. Besides, it's made by a for-profit corporation. Anything that drives up the price makes it harder for poor folks to ignore your "superior" wisdom. They may still want their Coke but they can't buy any 'cause they don't have enough money.

Of course the left response will be to demand that Coke be available using EBT cards and even militate for a "Coke Allowance" to whip up their core voters.

Why, oh why, do liberals bite the hands that feed them? Is it ignorance or just plain stupidity?

Liberals are all for taxing the hell out of soda drinkers but an aluminum can price increase pisses them off.

Too funny.
Have soda drinkers been taxed anywhere but NYC?

You know it was to try and stem the high obesity rate among kids, right?

It may not be good for us, but a Coke is just the ticket at 3:00 p.m. when you're holding your eyes open with toothpicks and you've got miles to go before you sleep. A jolt of sugar and caffeine is just what the doctor ordered. Bripat said the actual price increase to producers is way less than a penny per can. Let's see how much they screw us for in the store. Like someone told me yesterday, tariffs are to raise prices.

Nevermind the fact that Obama made sure we had to buy the stuff from foreign producers when he attacked steel and aluminum producers in the US.

I was always suspicious of that Obama mandated government buy out of Chrysler debt. Screw the suppliers.

Remember when coke raised their prices because of soda tax and the Left did not give a shit? The Left has a war on soda..... they should be embracing this outcome.

Let's hear more about this "war on soda," please. I had not heard of it. Or that it was necessarily a "leftie" thing to forego sugary empty calorie drinks.

win win win
...people will stop drinking more high calorie, dental deteriorating soda, getting healthier and saving on healthcare

A). Pepsi is better. Coke has never been the same since they introduced Coke II.
B). Coke is its own victim for using imported aluminum when there is plenty of US produced aluminum here.
C). Tariffs work by raising prices to effect a desired change which eventually lowers them again by equalizing the market to more fair competition while adjusting prices to be more commensurate with national consumption. End result is you end up paying closer to the real value of the product but stimulate internal economies which ultimately comes back later to offset the slightly higher price by increasing earnings (ie: more locally produced aluminum is both made and sold). So it all works out for the better.
D). I show this over and over to the Trump-Triggered poor TDS Derps:

But they just don't want to admit it.

Coke only cares about Coke. It doesn't care about fellow Americans at all. It's one of those companies that outsourced numerous good-paying jobs for slave labor overseas. Hopefully the tariffs will convince it to create some more jobs here at home.

Thanks for the laugh. Trump just got the head of the Europeon Union to work towards zero tariffs.

Now what was that about them not working, again?
The losses soybean farmers are suffering from the trade war with China are much greater than the gains with the EU.

Oh, really, the Europeon Union agreed to buy a whole lot more soybeans and Trump is just getting warmed up.

You just don't like Trump winning and now we have the upper hand for once in four decades.

Now pay attention. We, America, consume 80% of what we make and have a 700 Billion trade deficit. We are the one with the upper hand. We don't need them and they need us. Pretty simple shit.

Wrong dude. Very wrong.

1. They will buy more soybeans. Why would they buy more soybeans now than before? Did they tell you which European country? If you are buying ( consuming) 2 loaf of bread every week from your grocery. Are you going to buy more than you need because your grocery close down?

2. We are one of the largest consumers in the world that is why trade deficits will always be there.
3. Prove to us where you got your numbers 80% of what we consumed are made in America.
4. Prove to us why you said we don’t need them. Even your fucked up president make his products overseas.

Simple minded lieberals can't do basic math. We exported 2.3 Trillion and imported 2.9 Trillion in 2017 out of a 20 Trillion economy. Sorry to ruin your day but we have the leverage and it's time for fair trade.

What economic principle states that trade must be equitable in order to be effective and profitable?

My can of Coke is going to cost a dime more? Omfg what will I do???

This is simply devastating!

More money for Coke. Like it needs it. If folks stop buying Coke, it'll come around and lower prices. This is just how greedy Globalists do things. They threaten and coerce, to get their way. Maybe folks should decide to stop buying Coke? I betcha it changes its tune in no time.

Pepsi sucks so no, I'll stick with Coke.

Except they do work as a deterrent for countries taking advantage of us. Remember when you said soybean farmers were all going to die? They're not. The objective is 0 tariffs. Let the product speak for itself.
Trump 2020 because there are still more lopsided Obama deals to get rid of...

I am 100% sure you don’t understand what your Moron did to the farmers or you just refused to understand.

1. The zero tariffs you are talking about has a lots of work that need to be done. Your Moron always open his mouth without a clear view of understanding what he heck he is talking about.

2. You may want to read what all the farmers are talking about how disappointed or disgusted about Trump trade wars. They prefer to sell their products than suddenly they are in ($12b ) welfare.

3. Prices all over will effect every sectors of businesses and daily livelihood that will never come down. That you Mr. President.
If we have zero tariffs with Europe, that will be a reduction in tariffs to the largest market on Earth. You're too fucking stupid to understand that. Trump will come to an arrangement with China. They can't win a trade war with the USA. they have a $500 billion/year surplus with us. If that goes away, it means a lot of suffering in China, with only slightly higher prices in the US.

There still is about a 70,000,000 ton short call between the amount of soybeans Jina used to buy and what the EU will buy!
says who?

Philadelphia's soda tax isn't the windfall some had hoped for
