Count up the doctors and nurses in our country and see how much they would be paid for what we pay! Those hospitals are usually bought and paid for many times over, so where is the wasted money going? It's not going to doctors and nurses.

Welfare in 2010 was 0.62% of the budget and that was at the end of the Great Recession. There are programs that are needed for people down and out and those programs find ways to get people working again, but wages are so low people are working and still getting benefits. That is a subsidy when WalMart is showing it's people how to work for them and get government benefits. This is a common theme throughout the retail and service industries, though labor isn't the majority component of them doing business.

Let's say you go to Bob Evans for a meal! It was your choice to go there instead of buying your food and making your own meal. Either way though, the taxpayer is subsidizing your meal by paying for things like housing and food stamps for the working poor. Why shouldn't these businesses pay their people enough so they don't qualify for assistance and you pay that business directly for the service their labor provides for you?

Conservatives stand for economic freedom and not individual freedom. Libertarians stand for both freedoms. Economic freedom has proven to be more than a business can responsibly handle, so it's better to regulate what a business can do and they can function fine within the rules.

Why don't you quote what I said and figure out the meaning? Medical advancements are not part of health care and are an entirely different industry. The health care industry involves applying established procedures via doctors, hospitals and diagnostic testing. It also involves paying for it. Once Reagan removed the tax exempt status from health care insurers, it turned many of them into a for-profit business. The health care industry has grown into a monster using tax exempt, non-profit hospitals that behave like for-profit organizations using Chinese dollar accounting to treat people in emergency rooms instead of clinics. The citizens in America pay about twice as much as they should for the service that is rendered.

Now, when we look at your tangent about a new treatment, this is what happens nearly all the time. A university makes a discovery and that sparks the interest for a small corporation to go through the clinical trials. Only when the drug has proven itself to be highly profitable is it bought up by Big Pharma. The days of Big Parma doing all that development itself are gone, because they have hugh amounts of money and aren't going to risk it to develop a drug. If the drug creates liability, they want a small corporation to go bankrupt and avoid the cost. Big Pharma also focuses on marketing new drugs that aren't any more effective than old drugs, but they have the clout to influence the health care industry to use the newer expensive drug.

What Reagan did was destroy a good health care insurance system and produce one that costs more than twice as much. The system that replaced the old tax exempt, non-profits are monopolies, because the state insurance commissions causes them to become monopolies. Reagan didn't create Republican capitalism and we all know it, so stop the bullshit! Reagan just taxed it and made the whole health care insurance industry more expensive and unsustainable, according to their own statements from their CEOs.
