For a case such as the OP or the fake Tolling Stone article etc. the false accusers should be severely punished, but what about the accusations that are honest, in good faith, but can’t be proven?

How do we find s balance?

Rape kits.
They give an actual true representation as to whether the victim was sexually assaulted.
Barring that they need something other than her testimony.

It's good the claims got found out but I'm sure the kid still feels like his life is ruined. Its lucky he didn't do something drastic like suicide like the other case. If a lesson is to be learned ... its maybe people should keep their mouths shut publicly until there is some real evidence or at least an actual conviction... instead of letting innocent individuals become walking targets

The problem is there being no consequence for such false charges. In other words the true victim being the boy who was falsely accused of rape sees no form of justice.
