GOP revives rule allowing $1 salaries for government employees

Is this so Trump can take $1 as his salary like he said he wanted to do?

If so, how could anyone oppose this?
If we have mediocre government employees it is because we WANTED mediocre government. Therefore we cut salaries, thus not attracting any but mediocre employees.

You don't set salary based on what you have - you set it on the basis of what you want.

This is just capitalism. Every corporation knows this stuff.

Every corporation knows that if the government can cut wages, so can they. Welcome to the new banana republic.

Several members of Trump's cabinet have also indicated a willingness to work for a dollar a year. This change is for the billionaires.

It's funny to see liberals outraged over it.

I don't see how your logic adds to this discussion.

We have free market capitalism controlling wages in the USA, except for minimum wage - we did set a floor.

After that, corporations have always been allowed to do what they want. There isn't anything new about it, other than the small changes to minimum wage that have been made over the years.

Billionaires have always been allowed to do what they want. That's not new.

The only issue here that I see is that if we set the salary for some government position at $1, it will only attract those for whom salary is no issue - the very rich, those who see a way to use the position to make themselves rich.

I don't see a real reason to make an effort to attract those in either category. I'd rather see us focus on attracting capable people from the real world.

Unemployment is already currently 15-20%. Anyone who's buying their current 5% number, must also believe in the Easter Bunny and Santa Clause.
Are that many around you not working? Where do you live?

He lives somewhere on Planet Earth and he is correct.

There are a hell of a lot of Americans not working; about 95 million of them. It's been all over the internet so I don't know how anyone could be surprised. The problem with unemployment statistics is that the picture looks either good or bad depending on how you count the unemployed. The 5% figure includes those who are actively seeking employment; however it does not include those who have become discouraged and quit looking for work. This manner of calculating unemployment is disingenuous at best. Certainly those who have given up looking for work are just as unemployed as those who are still looking. The unemployment figures also do not show how many are underemployed. Most of the jobs created under Obama are either government jobs or part-time jobs. Nothing worth celebrating here, folks.

At any rate, for those who are not aware of the labor participation rate and who doubt what I have written, here is a a link for you:

“The final jobs report of the Obama presidency, released Friday, shows that the number of Americans not in the labor force has increased by 14,573,000 (18.09 percent) since January 2009, when Obama took office, continuing a long-term trend that began well before Obama was sworn in.

“In December, according to the Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, a record 95,102,000 Americans were not in the labor force, 47,000 more than in November; and the labor force participation rate was 62.7 percent, a tenth of a point higher than in November.”

Record 95,102,000 Americans Not in Labor Force; Number Grew 18% Since Obama Took Office in 2009

According to the above report, the number of Americans not in the labor force has increased by over 14.5 million under Obama. If you did not know this you are getting your news from an unreliable source. Most of the MSM presents the news in the way that is most favorable to the Obama administration. They have been known to hide the truth and even to lie. Try Drudge Report at this link: DRUDGE REPORT 2017®

The 95M unemployed thing is also a BLATANT lie.

I think it started with Palin saying 93M are unemployed, and that is also a blatant lie.

You guys need to reign in your lies. Being truthful is important.

We're talking about America here, and we deserve better than blatant lies.

If they lazy then they are comparable to most all ceos.....not worth a dime. The laborers do the work, the CEO does less than zero. Never met one worth anything.

You really think that this will effect unemployment? Are you nuts?

Congress has to pass a law that reduces the pay of a position - IOW a law to reduce one persons pay. This is so congress can, if it wants, essentially eliminate or change the salary of specific positions in federal agencies.

We will have to see if that is a problem or not. Oversight is good. Oversight by a bunch of buffoons on the other hand...

ring the unearned wealth of trumps cabinet folk they should donate their services.
Several of Trump's nominees made their wealth in areas where they will now have huge influence on federal policy.

So, I'm confident that they will be stupendously compensated for their time dicking around up there in D.C.

Unemployment about to go up to 20%.....You think your pay isn't going to go down? PFT!

GOP revives rule allowing $1 salaries for government employees
It looks like the Trump Terror has begun.

You thinkin they'll donate to the Clinton foundation?

Do most Americans really believe the Unemployment Rate is only 4.7%? Pretty insane if they do. That number is pure fiction.

Billionaires cry the most about paying taxes.....babies who don't know what work is.
