GOP revives rule allowing $1 salaries for government employees

Yep, lets become a third world country and fire your entire government. Lets have slums like in india!!!!! That seems to me what you really want for the poor.

The poor are subhuman at least they atre looked at that way. They work for 10 bucks an hour. For that I pretend to work.

Unemployment is already currently 15-20%. Anyone who's buying their current 5% number, must also believe in the Easter Bunny and Santa Clause.
Are that many around you not working? Where do you live?

He lives somewhere on Planet Earth and he is correct.

There are a hell of a lot of Americans not working; about 95 million of them. It's been all over the internet so I don't know how anyone could be surprised. The problem with unemployment statistics is that the picture looks either good or bad depending on how you count the unemployed. The 5% figure includes those who are actively seeking employment; however it does not include those who have become discouraged and quit looking for work. This manner of calculating unemployment is disingenuous at best. Certainly those who have given up looking for work are just as unemployed as those who are still looking. The unemployment figures also do not show how many are underemployed. Most of the jobs created under Obama are either government jobs or part-time jobs. Nothing worth celebrating here, folks.

At any rate, for those who are not aware of the labor participation rate and who doubt what I have written, here is a a link for you:

“The final jobs report of the Obama presidency, released Friday, shows that the number of Americans not in the labor force has increased by 14,573,000 (18.09 percent) since January 2009, when Obama took office, continuing a long-term trend that began well before Obama was sworn in.

“In December, according to the Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, a record 95,102,000 Americans were not in the labor force, 47,000 more than in November; and the labor force participation rate was 62.7 percent, a tenth of a point higher than in November.”

Record 95,102,000 Americans Not in Labor Force; Number Grew 18% Since Obama Took Office in 2009

According to the above report, the number of Americans not in the labor force has increased by over 14.5 million under Obama. If you did not know this you are getting your news from an unreliable source. Most of the MSM presents the news in the way that is most favorable to the Obama administration. They have been known to hide the truth and even to lie. Try Drudge Report at this link: DRUDGE REPORT 2017®

The 95M unemployed thing is also a BLATANT lie.

I think it started with Palin saying 93M are unemployed, and that is also a blatant lie.

You guys need to reign in your lies. Being truthful is important.

We're talking about America here, and we deserve better than blatant lies.
No problem here. The number is 95 million. Let's accept that number and let's see if Republicans lower it. Now at least we agree on a number.

Is this correct? Democrats are outraged that a bunch of billionaires want to sort out the democrat government mess for free.

Several members of Trump's cabinet have also indicated a willingness to work for a dollar a year. This change is for the billionaires.

It's funny to see liberals outraged over it.
Billionaires have always been allowed to do what they want. That's not new.

The only issue here that I see is that if we set the salary for some government position at $1, it will only attract those for whom salary is no issue - the very rich, those who see a way to use the position to make themselves rich.

I don't see a real reason to make an effort to attract those in either category. I'd rather see us focus on attracting capable people from the real world.
We have the most capable people now. The movers and shakers. The titans of finance, business and technology. Salary is no issue. They cannot be bought. But no, democrats want real world mediocrity.

When you're a democrat, everyone looks like a slave....
You guys want to "make America great again". My dad back in 1960's went from high school to Ford. He was one of those poorly educated blue collar workers trump promised he would bring their good jobs back. He lied. No way jobs will ever be this good again. My dad was paid well, great benefits, had job security because of the union, got profit sharing and a pension because of the union too. Amazing medical benefits too.

Trump will never make America that great again. Maybe he will make us better than we are right now but America middle class will never be as good as us liberals created with unions labor laws and new deals. The rich won the class warfare you didn't even know was happening

Ohhh but class warfare is bad....lol
When the robber barons started the federal reserve and imposed the income tax they gave their fortunes away and looked like good guys but who cares about giving millions away when you stand to make billions and eventually trillions.

Take a look at the debt. Is it good? You owe those robber barons that money. They own you

The unions sucked the life out of those companies paying the benefits. Auto companies were paying more in pensions than they were on steel. The unions were vampires sucking the life out of the companies that employed them. As with all parasites, when the host dies, so does the union parasite.

Just a few years ago we saw it happen with Hostess. The company begged the union to let the company survive. The union said no. Where did they think the money was going to come from?

Hostess closed. Sold off the recipes and the owners pocketed a few million. No comfort for the deservedly unemployed union members.

Bs. In 1999 Ford had record profits and paid profit sharing. Hostess broke the unions because they didn't like paying good wages.

And hostess CEO wasnt making $30 million dollars a year. I'm not saying unions are perfect but today when a non union company records record profits they don't profit share with non union employees. So don't wonder why workers aren't doing as well as they were before

The rich and successful are rich and successful because they do what it takes to make them that way. The poor are poor because they do the things that makes them poor. If I hadn't been born with bi-polar disorder I might've made better choices in life than I did and I might be well off now. One must take responsibility for their own choices.

The truth is the truth.

My brother is a rich VP and he believes he got lucky. Catherine Hepburn said she got lucky someone noticed her.

Let's not confuse people who were born rich with people who are self made.

But I agree if you aren't smart enough to get out of poverty you probably belong there and it's not our fault two poor people decided to have you. Would you rather they didn't? So even though you were born poor you were lucky to be born.

Rich kids will always be more privileged than us. The question is does our society allow for upward mobility? I believe it does.

This might surprise you but I heard that some very rich people inherited their wealth and also some poor people are born that way. I could be wrong.

I do not believe everyone in Alabama is poor and a half-educated Republican voter.
Maybe in Mississippi but not Alabama.
What I said was well above your education level child....

Good.... most of them aren't worth $.01 let alone $1.

How about a rule that rich guys have to live on their public servant salary while in public office?

Let's start with Pelosi, Reid, Kerry, Clinton.
Did they claim to want to only take one dollar for their public servant salary, so they can donate the rest to public charity, while they live on their one percent income?
Pay the debt....I know, absurd right?

Unemployment about to go up to 20%.....You think your pay isn't going to go down? PFT!

3/4 of them shouldn't have a job any way.
The public sector was never supposed to be this big. Period.
How many unconstitutional agencies do we have?

I suppose we should start that discussion with Homeland Security. Of course it is Constitutional, as are the EPA, FDA, SS, Medicare and the ACA. Gee, the public sector in a nation of 300+ Million people should all be at the mercy of for profit private contractors, wouldn't that work well for the few!
