"The Senate on Tuesday voted to break the Republican-led filibuster of Chuck Hagel’s nomination to become the next Secretary of Defense, clearing the way for his confirmation.

Senate Republicans made history earlier this month by successfully filibustering a president’s Defense Secretary nominee for the first time in U.S. history.

But a number of Republicans who voted to uphold the filibuster — including Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), Lamar Alexander (R-NE), Roy Blunt (R-MO) and Orrin Hatch (R-UT) — joined Democrats in breaking the filibuster on Tuesday. Overall, 18 Republicans voted for cloture, which ultimately passed by a vote of 71-27."

GOP; Flippin' & Floppin'

"Mr. Hagel became the first defense secretary nominee in history required to garner 60 votes to win confirmation. Senate Republicans blocked a motion to allow Mr. Hagel's nomination to proceed more than a week ago, effectively filibustering the nominee.

GOP senators have attempted to downplay the 60-vote requirement.

"It happens all the time, it's a normal thing," said Sen. James Inhofe (R., Okla.)."

Yup. Being in Nam makes you an expert in running the Department of Defense.

That's like saying Grips are experts in film production.

Who the heck cares? We all know Obama was going to have some bad choice in here. Was there any chance we thought he'd pick someone reasonable? At least we have an idea of where he is totally crappy. like his anti Israel stances. Really sucks that we have someone hostile to our allies, but at least we know.

These guys thought being a community organizer qualified someone for President.

Think that argument is really going to change someone's opinion on Sec of Def?

Victory for Obama huh??

Wonder if it will be a victory for America?

Somehow I doubt it.

Outside of Osama's death, when has a victory for Obama ever been a victory for America? And Im not even sure that's true. Because seeing him tried might have been a better victory.

A good Sec. Of Defense would a general, not an infantry Sgt who spent less than 2 years in the service and became a bullet magnet. He didn't learn anything about military tactics and barely could tell you the difference between S1, S3, and S4.....

Lovely.

All of Obama's appointees, Brennan, Kerry and now Hagel, could prove disastrous for the world, especially that of Hagel, who seems rather a dim witted person and really only has the capability of being in charge of the local Boy-Scouts group .... even then he would probably keep on putting his foot in his mouth!
