How can a party or ideology "win" in such an evenly-divided country?

How can a party or ideology "win" in such an evenly-divided country?
.

Even though you are sadly too ignorant to even know it, your question is the basis for why Trump correctly called Fake News the Enemy of the people.

The country would not be divided if the people were told the truth. But right now half of America believes lies and propaganda and the lies form their opinions and their votes.

This forum is a perfect example: You and the Democrats here post lies and propaganda and actually believe some of it. YOU are the division in America. When confronted with facts the Left always just uses the usual weapons, fear and accusations of hate, racism, blah blah blah.

You are correct. The division is between an elite whose loyalty lies elsewhere and Americans. A ruling class that has made an alliance against middle and working class Americans.
The choice isn’t two versions of America. It’s between America and subjugation.

If you agree with me that (a) the sides of the spectrum are only getting more divided, that (b) they're becoming less and less interested in working together, and that (c) the two "sides" are fairly evenly divided, here's a question:

What is the point of barely pushing through, on a purely partisan basis, agendas and legislation that only reflect "your side" of the country? Doesn't it seem temporary to you?

Doesn't it make sense that legislation that is the result of collaboration will likely be more permanent, since both "sides" have skin in the game?

What is your best argument for this country being ruled on a purely partisan basis, back and forth, back and forth?
.

LOL....
If dems didnt import votes it would be one sided.

Yes the entire world of law enforcement and respected journalists are wrong only Sean hannity Rush Limbaugh and the rest are not lying. Whatever you do don't change the channel...

It can't until there is a civil war...there is no way THIS can continue...either the country will finally collapse because of this partisan shit because the party not in power won't allow a new budget to pass etc....personally I look forward to it.

Now, you're coming out in favor of one-party rule, which is another way of arguing in favor of a trend toward populist autocracy, or even fascism. Goes without saying, voters in favor of the GOP also play no role in your argument.

Yes, I don't waste my time on stupid people... The kind of voters who consistantly vote away their rights because the GOP is "Right with Jesus", you can't reason with that kind of stupidity, so i don't even really try.

Yes. Which is why I pretty much shrug at any bill that is proposed/signed or person who is appointed unless they have lifetime terms (like the Federal Judges/Supreme Court). If it’s a program the Congress doesn’t favor but the President does, they just don’t fund it. Of if the Congress passes it and the President doesn’t like it, it is vetoed. Its time to pop the hood open on the Government and fix the structure of the apparatus so that, at the very least, if a law is passed, it is funded until the law is repealed (in the case above). The problem goes much deeper than that…we need to castrate the offices of Speaker and Majority Leader in the Senate so that they cannot effectively veto bills by not letting the whole body vote on a measure.

Doesn't it make sense that legislation that is the result of collaboration will likely be more permanent, since both "sides" have skin in the game?
Not sure what you mean by that.

There is no marginally good argument to be made for a nation being “ruled”—I prefer governed—on a purely partisan basis.

What Mac means is that the GOP shall have an effective veto over any and all progressive proposals. If the reactionary bananas caucus doesn't sign on, it shall not happen.

Take the ACA as a good counter-example. President Obama, despite fierce opposition and a tsunami of lies about the ACA, took the country three steps forward toward something more decent, healthier, more equitable. The GOP took the country one or two steps backward. That means the country is one or two steps ahead of where it would have been without the ACA. Now, that may seem smallish, but for millions it may well amount to a life-or-death difference. That's how democracy works. Messy, frustrating, slow, never permanent, and more often than not outrageous. It would be way, way worse were the country to follow Mac's advice, progress stalled permanently.

What does the end of your civil war look like?

Significantly more dead Democrats so that the Republicans will win all the elections and we're a one-party country?

Get specific. You can post it here: The Coming CIVIL WAR!

the Democrats just have to get a president and more than 50 votes in the Senate and go nuclear option on everything to hell with it. In other words they can pass stuff with 51. the Republicans can change them back if they want. We'll see how that works LOL living wage Healthcare cheap college and training and ID card to end illegal immigration and end this incredible GOP mess. Only garbage propaganda and their zombie voters makes this Insanity possible. Breaking for zombies, Democrats are honest and the rich do not pay enough in taxes if you count them all, so the middle class and the working-class have been going to hell for 35 years now. Thanks scumbag GOP and silly dupes.

Its simple.

You don't count ONLY US citizens in the census. This way, the Democrats are assured of overrepresentation and can claim more and more seats in Congress on the basis of illegals in this country, thereby disenfranchising the true citizenship of these states.

Obama did not lie, he made campaign promises that were broken by Congress. He didn't want an individual mandate originally etc.

Obama should have done the nuclear option I said we should just all go for it and pass what we want and then people can see who's who here. And not be duped anymore by the GOP to make it plain.

Nah. GOP is as worthless as the democrats are. 95% of republicans aren't racially aware and don't realize whites ARE America, without whites we have no America. We are headed towards a racial civil war along with a war against the rich mixed in. It will start as a collapse of the system once there are more takers than people paying into the system and it can no longer stand...we are already in debt...it won't take much. The major cities will turn into virtual war zones,I expect the president whoever it is to declare martial law and send in the military to quell any riots etc which will make things worse. Those of us in the rural areas will hunker down and defend ourselves but will eventually have to defend ourselves with arms once the cities are ransacked and out of food and water etc. The nonwhite hordes will migrate into the country side to attack, loot, rob, rape and murder. That's when those of us who have prepared will start fighting back and uniting and slowly but surely picking up speed to cleanse the entire country of the filth. In the end I expect either Mexico to retake the southwest and maybe Russia to take the Northwest or maybe just Alaska and the whites will either control what's left or we will just set up our own country in the midwest or northeast or somewhere else...maybe most of Appalachia. There are MANY books on this. The Northwest books by Harold Covington, A book called Patriot Act by D.A. Hanks is another.

While I can relate to the sentiment, and fully reject Mac's proposal to effect in essence one party rule (where one party cannot by commitment enact legislation without the approval of the other), I also do not think scorched earth tactics is the right way to go. If the GOP cannot help looking malign, blinkered and bigoted, there's no obligation for Democrats to follow suit.

Obama did not lie, he made campaign promises that were broken by Congress. He didn't want an individual mandate originally etc.

I thought, describing how President Obama pushed through the ACA against fierce opposition and a tsunami of lies, it's clear I meant "government takeover of health care!!!!!" or "death panels!!!!!" And yes, "keep your doctor" overstated what the ACA could and would accomplish, and if you're scrupulous enough, you can describe that as a lie. The GOP however - remember the tsunami of lies? - has no standing to sue.

The Democrats were damn lucky to get it through by the skin of their teeth. It has to be worked on forever and of course the GOP obstructs and sabotages it as much as they can and of course we refuse to do any tinkering with it....scorched-earth is the GOP way they chose it and they have ruined the middle class and our infrastructure doing it....those reforms are so far overdue it is ridiculous. Every other modern country has all of that and we have none amazing.

I have long held that, in case in a two-party system one party goes bonkers and becomes a destructive force, so, over time, does the other. Vengefulness and vindictiveness in the face of the other party's mendacity and general malignancy would provide the main driver for that. Let's say, I hope that within the Democratic party the forces of reason prevail, scorched-earth tactics remain the GOP's purview, and lines of communication remain open even while the Party of Trump shreds more of the remainder of American decency, and digs their bunker deeper every day.

Mac does himself a great disservice by not recognizing how one-sided the insanity is divided these days, even now, how much reason there is to be found from Pelosi to AOC, and from Biden to, yes, Sanders, and everyone in between. You, and your verbiage, provide evidence for, and reinforce, Mac's both-side-ist nonsense.

Doesn't it make sense that legislation that is the result of collaboration will likely be more permanent, since both "sides" have skin in the game?

.
Easy solution: publicly financed elections.

Stop trying to make sense your just going to confuse people. You have to look at the partisan basis on two fronts the party line vote and executive order while I don't think passing stuff on a strictly party line vote is good for the nation that is the result of our elections the EO is not good because you do that with simply one person making the decision that to is the result of an election but anything done by one President through an EO can be undone by the next one so much stuff is here today gone tomorrow. Sadly the partisan divide is making governing by EO almost the only way to get anything done.

Is that a complaint about my verbiage? What does old Europe mean are you in Europe are you European. I could have been English unfortunately at the time there was no dual citizenship. And I always wanted to run a bar my aunt's bar in Fuengirola Spain. But that was impossible too damn it.
