I don’t understand why republicans reject social democratic principles like Bernie’s platform

Bernie’s agenda to them is about “free shit” and while technically it’s true, republicans obviously have no trouble accepting “free shit” that already exists like Medicare/medicaid, public school for kids, emergency services, driving on public roads, letting goddamn snowplows plow those very public roads.

Now granted, you can make the argument that those socialist services are not free because taxes pay for them, but that doesn’t change the fact that Bernie’a proposed socialist ideas would be funded by tax payer revenue.

Here is a couple of Bernie’s new ideas to a model that’s always existed in the first place:

1) Tuition-free education (this benefits society as a whole mind you because jobs that require higher education help run this country)

2) Medicare for all because most people can’t afford advanced healthcare services like cancer treatment or goddam insulin

Republicans like to pretend that his platform is all about destroying capitalism and have everyone live off the dole even though it clearly isn’t. They just decide this because it fits in with their Fox News/GOP worldview. It makes them feel manly and superior believing that kind of crap. Making college and healthcare free isn’t about taking away personal responsibility. It’s about making services more accessible because right now people can’t afford them.

Of course, beyond just an individual benefit of programs, he believes in common sense government investment like infrastructure and overturning Citizens United.
I couldn’t get past the free shit nonsense at the beginning. When we pay taxes and those taxes are going to pay for that stuff then it’s not “free“.

Exactly. Bernie and all the rest are real quick to point out what they want to give away to everyone.... but then magically slow at explaining how they intend to pay for anything.

Simple. Tax the rich.

Tax the rich for gun control.
Tax the rich for college.
Tax the rich for Medicare for all.
Tax the rich for paid personal leave.
Tax the rich for making our air and water cleaner.
Tax the rich for illegals healthcare coverage.
Tax the rich for infrastructure.

Just tax the rich!
If they are hoarding the large majority of the nation’s income and wealth, then yeah, tax the rich. It’s the only plan that makes any sense. Close the generous tax loopholes and deductions that only rich people take advantage of.

If they are hoarding the large majority of the nation’s income and wealth

How does the nation have income and wealth?
Individuals have income and wealth, eh comrade?

Close the generous tax loopholes and deductions that only rich people take advantage of.

Can you post a list?

Again, that has never worked in all human history.

And if they are 'hoarding' as if you being allowed to keep what is rightfully yours is "hoarding"..... that still changes nothing. You can't stop the rich from simply leaving the country.

Remember, France tried this. Their wealth tax, backfired so badly, that thousands of people were simply leaving the country, and taking their money with them.

Venezuela tried this, and all the rich and wealthy, moved to other countries, Columbia, the US, Brazil, and other places.

Every country that has ever tried the "tax the rich" has ended up in poverty, with the rich perfectly fine to go live elsewhere.

So you can say "it only makes sense" until you destroy the country, and you will only succeed in destroying the country.
Lol the official tax rate in the 50’s on the rich was 90% and the effective tax rate was double what it is now. That was a time of great economic growth. If the wealthy have a high tax rate, it forces them to invest their money into labor rather than to keep it to make a profit. Nowadays, they have so much wealth that when they get another tax cut, they just keep the money the save rather than invest it. Doesn’t it bother you that a few wealthy individuals in this country own more wealth than half of Americans combined?

Did they steal it? Or did they make it by providing a desired good or service?

First off, it's not the nations income, it's their income that they created.

Secondly, what is the point of creating wealth if somebody is going to take it away? Would you go to work in the morning if you were only going to earn 20% of your pay? Of course not. It's not worth your time going in, so you just stay home instead.

While we on the right try to encourage people to create or expand businesses, you on the left do everything you can to discourage them.

They acquired that wealth off of their workers. Wages have remained mostly stagnant for these workers yet their productivity has skyrocketed. They got that wealth off of that underpaid productivity.

Either way, this isn’t about what is necessarily fair. It’s about what’s realistic. If they are hoarding the wealth, then the only way to effectively pay for government spending is to tax that wealth. Doesn’t it bother you that republicans explode the defense budget but cut their taxes even though they are already richer than ever before?

Um yeah. Hoarding.

Is Bill Gates hoarding the billions he donated to charity the numerous jobs he created the numerous uses for his products that made other people’s jobs easier. Stop it!
You can call it whatever you want and no one ever said Gates was stingy, but a few individuals in this country own more wealth than half of Americans combined. Use whatever word you want for that.

Actually Gates was very stingy. Then Bill Clinton leveled a phony monopoly charge on him that was costing Microsoft a million dollars a day in fines. Gates finally got the picture. He then understood that when Democrats are in charge, it's a pay-to-play operation.

Yes, Republicans did cut their taxes, and the results are in. Lowest unemployment in nearly 50 years. Reduced need for social services. Workforce labor on the incline. More jobs than workers to fill them. Median household income hit a record high.

The top 20% of income earners in this country pay over 80% of all federal income taxes. But let's say you tax the rich much more to pay for these Democrat programs. Then we have no more rich to tax in the future, and nobody interested in taking the risks to become rich. Now what would our country do???? We would lose the main source of income tax in this country and nobody but the little people to replace it.

76% of Americans will not vote for a socialist, Comrade Billy. Perhaps y'all should have considered that before sliding down your rabbit hole.

Poll: Majority of Americans say they would not vote for a 'socialist'

Meanwhile back on the Dem Plantation, DNC Chair Tom Perez has 3 Mexico City fundraisers on his Sept schedule because neither of the rational Dem donors are willing to write big checks in support of the socialist silliness their candidates are peddling. The party is desperate because - as Perez admitted - “Our eventual nominee won't stand a chance against Trump and the GOP's fundraising machine..."

Lol I love how you ignore all the polls that show Bernie would crush Trump in an election.

Why would it bother me what other people have? If I went that way through life, I would hate millions of people. Who wants to live like that?

You people on the left were lied to. We do not live in a bubble where money is finite; where if one has too much, that's the reason others have too little. You can make as much money as you want in this country. It's unlimited.

Wealthy people got that way from investing. They do not put it in some savings account at their local bank or stuff money under a mattress. That''s only in cartoons. Wealthy people became wealthy by allowing their money to create more money for them.

Your theory is extremely flawed, so let me ask: if your boss decreased your hourly wage by three dollars an hour, would you feel like paying your lawn care guy more money? How about spending more money at a restaurant? How about giving the cashier at your grocery store a twenty dollar tip? Of course not. When you have less money, you do the exact opposite. You look for ways to cut to replace that lost money.

As for the 50's, it was extremely difficult to move your business out of the country. Overseas travel was dangerous as we did not have satellites in the sky to warn us of bad weather. Travel was also very expensive as was shipping products back to the US. Long distance communications were virtually impossible. There was virtually nowhere else to run your business efficiently.

Today, a business owner can run his company from his cell phone, even check his investments up to the minute sitting on his toilet in Brazil. He doesn't need all his company VIP's in a room for their biweekly meeting. He can do that over the internet. Travel is relatively safe and affordable for most people.

This isn't the 50's. That was nearly 70 years ago. A lot has changed since then.

Wrong. The actual tax rate was never above 40% due to the loopholes. The wealthy do a lot more for this country than the poor with kind hearts.

Then you don't know what hoarding is, or you are completely ignorant on how the money system works. In fact, I doubt you even understand what wealth these people have.

Moreover, all of the wealthy have created more wealth the benefits society than they themselves have. If you don't know that... then you are too stupid to talk about this topic.

Billy, I am going to waste some time and explain this, but I doubt you will get it. We have to be honest before we can truly debate an issue, and frankly, honesty is one thing that nobody wants to have to deal with. Because truth is honest, and Truth is uncomfortable for people to deal with. I could give you a great example from George Carlin, but it wouldn’t matter.

Tuition Free Education through University. OK, Where the hell are we going to get all the Colleges we will need? Seriously, where? Because we have exactly two ways to go about it. Either we have essentially one University slot for every High School Kid who graduates, or we limit the numbers of people who can attend University. Those are the only two ways about it. So either we start building Universities now, and in a generation or two, we can have enough, or we decide that Free Tuition only applies to those who qualify.

But what qualification? Every year for my life, and I was a High School Kid in the 1980’s, we hear about the problems with University Admissions. In my case, the questions were always about UCLA or USC since I lived in California in the LA Suburbs.

The issue then was quota’s, and that is an issue that crops up now and then today. If the University went strictly by SAT scores, the Student Body would be a vast majority of Asians. They had the highest SAT scores at that time. It came around because they were essentially first Generation Americans who were pressured beyond belief by their Immigrant Parents to achieve. Chinese and Vietnamese as well as Koreans who were pushed to the breaking point to get straight A’s in College Prep classes. If they didn’t get the A, they were not working hard enough.

So many of these kids were denied entry into the best schools, despite having higher test scores, in an effort to make the Student Body of the University resemble the average cross section of American Society. It is still done today by the way.

But let’s talk about it. Seriously since you claim to want to. China, and even here in the US, you are looking at a Social Media Score. We have a historical example of how this works, including in College Admissions. The Soviet Union would grade you on how you behaved during weekly Party Meetings. If you participated and quoted the approved texts, you were considered politically reliable. Then you got a chance at a better life and a University appointment. You see, they did not want Politically Unreliable folks headed to the University.

Would we use such stuff like Social Media scores for University applications? Applying to College? Facebook and Twitter May Affect the Decision | Go See Campus

I told people I knew when Obamacare was being debated that we already had Death Panels. We called them Transplant Boards. They decided how worthy you were to receive a transplant based upon lifestyle and other criteria. If you were a smoker who had contracted several bouts of STD’s, and used drugs, then you wouldn’t make the list, and if you did, you would be at the bottom of the list. Unless you were a celebrity, then you would be a bit down from the very top of the list.

One of the criteria of College has always been cost. It keeps those from going who aren’t serious about going. For those who want it, they will find a way. For those who don’t want to find a way, they find their way to menial labor, because they won’t take the time to go to a vocational training program either.

That is the other thing. The truth, and we are talking truth. The truth is that Vocational Programs offer greater financial stability than University programs. Each year tens of thousands of Business Degree’s are passed out. Do we have a shortage of Managers that I am unaware of? I am what you would call Skilled Labor. I have the Vocational Training, and the experience, in a specific field. I make more money than the Assistant Managers, the Managers, and many of the General Managers. Why? Skilled Labor is always in demand. If you lose your job, you can get another in no time flat, because you have the skills to do the job.

But folks look down their noses at us uneducated and unwashed folks. The ones who fix your cars, fix your Air Conditioners, and Washing Machines. We are the Truck Drivers who deliver your new Living Room Set. We’re the mechanics and technicians who maintain the airplanes you fly off to various vacations on. Without us, you ain’t doing shit. So you pay through the nose for us. Most Garage’s charge a lot of money for a Mechanic to work on your car. Labor is usually twice or three times what the parts cost. (We don’t pay that most of the time, We fix it ourselves)

We have a set of trade skills. Most of my peers may not be able to discuss a classic bit of literature. I personally like to read. Most of my peers are not interested in Cosmology and Astronomy. I am smart and interested in it enough to understand the dumbed down thing, I’m going to have to take your word on the Math. I won’t even pretend that I understand the math on the deal.

The point is that there are a lot of ways, and most of them far easier, and better in the long run, than college. You say it is the key to success in the 21st Century. OK. How do you fix your Air Conditioner? I call my Repairman, and he comes out and changes something that I have no idea what it does. When he needs something big and heavy moved he calls me. I am a Crane Operator. I move big things, and place them perfectly. I get paid a lot of money to do so.

Yes, the Director of the Company get’s paid more. But not everyone gets to be a Director of the Company do they? Most people spend their careers slogging along at lower levels. Just as all officers in the Army won’t make General. All Business Degree folks won’t become CEO’s of a Fortune 500 or even 2,000 company.

That’s the truth mate. Not everyone should go to college. And those who want to, will find a way. I want Natural Selection to be involved in the mix somewhere. I don’t want Death Panels deciding if a brilliant but unconventional thinker is Socially Aware enough to get in.

Now, for Medicare for all, or Single Payer, or Socialized medicine. That is even easier. Rationing of available assets is always a part of that program. And that is a part I refuse to accept quietly. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/als-bc-man-medically-assisted-death-1.5244731

I am an old school Democrat. I believe in leveling the playing field a bit so everyone has a fighting chance. I believe in progressive taxes. I believe in Civil Rights above all. I believe in the Second Amendment, as well as the First, and all the others. I believe in treating people equally, not equality of outcome. We are all born with gifts from our Creator, or Genetic Random Chance if you like. I will never be a concert musician no matter what I try.

Lastly. Part of dealing with truth, is dealing with the substance, not the image of the subject.
