You would hope in that scenario but you are going to have a very limited window. It seems many truly moderate Democrats in the Party are fed up with the Party going Socialist. Right now, Pelosi and Hoyer are herding cats trying to keep Democrats from jumping ship to join the Administration which would create the need for special Elections or otherwise vulnerable to flip the seat in mid terms. On the Senate side, you also have Sen Manchen from West Virginia who is fed up with the Far Left bent of the Democrats. He could flip in your scenario giving Republicans 51-49 advantage. Abd don’t forget the State governments where Democrats did not flip any.

The radical Left is not as solid or popular as they would have you believe.
