Is the United States the most corrupt country on the planet ?

I took the liberty of rewording the title of this article . Questioning your government is the most American thing a person can do, unless you no longer respect the Constitution, namely the First Amendment.

The United States fell six places to a ranking of only 22 in Transparency International’s list of countries by corruption. Under Donald Trump, America is not in the top 20 for fair dealing.

But as I have argued before, the United States is the most corrupt country in the world and should be ranked 194, not 22. What follows is a much-revised version of my popular list.

Obviously, the U.S. Departments of Justice and the Treasury would not give corporations impunity for obtaining contracts by bribery, and it is this sort of scrupulousness that the Transparency International list is rewarding. And Americans don’t have to bribe government officials, as is true in many countries (though, to be fair to the government officials, they typically demand bribes because their governments don’t pay them a living wage).

But in all sorts of ways, U.S. corruption is off the charts, and because the U.S. is still the No. 1 economy in the world by nominal gross domestic product, massive corruption here has a global impact.

Here are the top signs that the U.S. is the most corrupt country in the world:

Funny, out of 180 countries, the USA is rated as one of the LEAST corrupt, 22nd from the bottom in fact.

You’re attempting to conflate two different issues: corruption and a lack of liberty.

Corruption is a threat to liberty.

From the commie source from the pathetic OP.
Here are the top signs that the U.S. is the most corrupt country in the world:

1. The U.S. is so corrupt that our ruling Republican Party would even deny human-made climate change and adopt pro-carbon policies inexorably destined to wreck the planet earth, all to ensure a few extra years of profits for dirty coal companies and oil giants like ExxonMobil.

Americans are now finally waking up from the 30 years of mesmerized unreality into which Big Carbon and its willing henchmen in the U.S. government had cast them. But nothing of any significance is being done by the federal government on the climate emergency, and the real leaders are states like California. Americans do not realize how peculiar their climate dementia is. No government in Europe openly denies human-made climate change through the burning of fossil fuels and the lodging of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, however lackadaisical some of them are about addressing the problem.

That, is all you need to know from the piece of commie shit OP
Yep everyone in the world is wrong but Oil company scientists and right wing propagandists... LOL. Stupidest voters in the world....

You must be a little short on current events in the world. By far, the most corrupt government on this planet is in Somalia. Look it up. Read the State Department warnings. That will tell you where real corruption is for "free" people. There is no freedom in some countries.

Just you go for a little boat ride in Somalian waters, sir. That will wash up any doubts in your mind. You must have at least a thousand dollars to have stolen. (it may be more now.) Otherwise, their pirate navy will kill you outright.

Major Troll post as far as I can tell. We do know the DOJ FBI CIA are so far. The total government I really hope not.

A sure sign of corruption is an electoral outcome like that of 2016. An addled nonentity like Donald Trump got filthy rich via tax loopholes and predatory behavior in his casinos and other businesses, and then was permitted to buy the presidency with his own money. He was given billions of dollars in free campaign time every evening on CNN, MSNBC, Fox and other channels that should have been more even-handed, because they were in search of advertising dollars and Trump was a good draw.

Then, too, the way the Supreme Court got rid of campaign finance reform and allowed open, unlimited secret buying of elections is the height of corruption. The permitting of massive black money in our elections was taken advantage of by the Russian Federation, which, having hopelessly corrupted its own presidential elections, managed to further corrupt the American ones as well. Once ensconced in power, Trump Inc. has taken advantage of the power of White House to engage in a wide range of corrupt practices, including an attempt to sell visas to wealthy Chinese and the promotion of the Trump brand as part of diplomacy.
Lies again. What makes these idiots spew this garbage daily?

Corruption in Somalia: Somalia Corruption Report

From Worldbank.org: "Piracy off the coast of Somalia took the world by surprise when, within a six-year span (2005-2011), as many as 1,099 ships were attacked"

And after that, people in the Western world avoided Somalia entirely, few exceptions. And in 2013, when their country had a famine, The UN still couldn't come in due to the corrupt killing of foreigners by strongmen of that country. Details here: Somalia famine 'killed 260,000 people', Somalia famine 'killed 260,000'
Other African countries hounded by corrupt governments also had problems during the drought.

Uganda, 1970s: Localised famine in Karamoja leaves thousands dead

Nigeria, 1967-1970: One million die in civil war and famine in the breakaway Biafran republic

Ethiopia, 1984-1985: Up to one million people die in famine caused by conflict, drought and economic mismanagement

Somalia, 1991-1992: Drought and war contribute to famine across the country; about 250,000 famine-related deaths reported in 1992

Democratic Republic of Congo, 1998-2004: Severe food crisis caused by conflict, millions affected by hunger

Ethiopia, 2000: Three consecutive years of drought leave millions at risk, with famine declared in Gode, the Somali region

Sudan, 2008: Localised famine in some areas of southern Sudan due to war and drought

Niger, 2010: Food shortages affect more than 7 million people after crops fail; 2005 - thousands die following drought and locust invasion

Somalia, 2010-2012: Nearly 260,000 die of hunger caused by drought and conflict

Source here: Somalia famine 'killed 260,000'

Wrong again. That was only 2 pages taken out of context from a long article.

On June 8, 1993 the chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives’ Committee on Banking, Rep. Henry Gonzalez (D-Tex.), made a speech charging that the U.S. government, under the previous Bush and Reagan administrations, had systematically refused to prosecute the BCCI, and that the Department of Justice had repeatedly refused to cooperate with Congressional investigations of both the BCCI scandal and what Gonzalez claims is the closely related scandal of the Atlanta, Georgia Banca Nationale del Lavoro, which was alleged to have secured billions in loans from the Bush administration to Saddam Hussein, just prior to the Gulf War of 1990-91.

Gonzalez charged that the Bush administration had “a Justice Department that I say, and I repeat, has been the most corrupt, most unbelievably corrupt justice system that I have seen in the 32 years I have been in the Congress.”
The problem is that in the US many corporations just have to pay a fine as punishment for bribery (giving or taking) and all's well.

In China someone can get the death penalty for bribery. I'm sure bribery is more common in China though.

But there are other things besides bribery, like the impunity of police.

Most of these things were around before Trump, he just made them worse.

The article is pretty good, I read it, but I don't think the US is as bad as countries where you have to give bribes for basic stuff like getting a driver's license or passport. However, the American police is worse than in some countries where you have to pay extra for everything.
