The only assault rifle under California law is the "Bushmaster assault rifle", which is specifically named as a verbotten "assault weapon"(don't ask me what a "bushmaster assault rifle is, because California does not say anything more). Otherwise the term "assault rifle" no where appears in California law.

I have a hard enough time telling gun control advocates that an "assault rifle" is not the same thing as an "assault weapon". That an assault weapon is usually a semi auto which looks like an assault rifle but is not because the official definition of an assault rifle requires it to be a intermediate power, select fire rifle with low recoil.

Obviously if I lost you I am merely banging my head against a brick wall trying to educate the gun grabbers....
