Nothing here I really disagree with, though I would say that we keep moving further and further close to the POTUS having ultimate power. Congress keeps giving up its power and duties to the Executive Branch, making it stronger while weakening the Legislative branch.

Since Lincoln was given unprecedented power, the Executive branch got more and more powerful until FDR made the position of POTUS a virtual Kingship.
Eisenhower cut way back on the abuses of the Executive but it stayed that way until Nixon got taken down by Congress and the Courts.
It wasn't that Nixon was a bad person or even a bad President. He was neither. He was simply following the examples of those before him.
It was that too much power was vested in the Executive Branch and that needed to change.
There were several books written on that very topic. I won't bother listing them. There would be no point in it.

The Legislative doesn't "Wage War" the US Military does. The POTUS is the Commander in Chief of ALL US Military.
And an AUMF is tantamount to a Dec War.
Also, the Courts don't detain anyone, the Executive does. The Courts convict and incarcerate. Police Powers fall under the purview of the Exec.
