Zionism in progressives is an interesting phenomenon, and recently gained an acronym:

The Progressive Except on Palestine phenomenon

Perplexed, I asked David how this seemingly contradictory combination was even possible.

In a matter-of-fact way, he said:

“We make a complete separation between the Jewish-Arab conflict and the social terms.

“You will only find this in Israel.”

?PEP? (Progressive Except Palestine) makes the Washington Post | Mondoweiss

“Like we really need yet another movie that looks at the conflict from a Palestinian perspective? Way to shatter the stereotype that Hollywood is run by Palestinians. And Palestinian women, specifically,” Halper exhales sarcastically. “Because there are so many Palestinians running Hollywood.”

Some in the audience laugh. But some clearly experience what Halper, a Laughing Liberally co-founder, calls the “PEP Phenomenon,” or Progressive Except on Palestine.

and a Ben and Jerry's flavor? Sadly, no...

Ben and Jerry's latest flavor is PEP (Progressive Except for Palestine)

VTJP is currently engaged in a campaign to pressure Ben and Jerry’s to stop catering and distribution of its products in the settlements, and to take a public stand against the illegal occupation of Palestinian territory that is in line with its social mission. Thousands of people have responded by emailing the company and more than one hundred organizations internationally have joined us to pressure Ben and Jerry’s to stand by their social mission and promote justice for all, including, not excepting, the Palestinian people.

Mr. Belafonte, will you speak on Palestine? at Postcards from Palestine

And he dodged, but the writer summed it up perfectly:
I understand that Palestine is central to all of our struggles for justice. The same companies build the US/Mexico wall and the apartheid wall in Palestine. The police who brutalize our communities go to Israel for training with its military. Our government pledges $30 billion in military aid to Israel while schools in Philadelphia and Chicago close due to budget shortfalls. We cannot win the struggle for justice at home or anywhere without addressing the effects of capitalism, colonialism and imperialism in Israel/Palestine.

There is unprecedented cognitive dissonance at work when people who support basic human rights and fairness towards everyone in the entire world stops short of ONE people with a boot to their necks, and it is saddest to see it done because of mass cultural, political, and emotional stockholm syndrome.

Isn't it wonderful how Barb crawled out of the woodwork once again onto the Middle East forum, but with all the posts she has made, there is not one about what is going on in the rest of the Middle East where over 150,000 have died, thousands and thousands are wounded, and there are over two millioin refugees. Maybe Barb is one of those who only crawl out when Israel is involved and not when so much is happening elsewhere.

Honestly, Sally, "Baboon" didn't post ANYTHING worthy of a response.
MAYBE a "yawn...".

Wrong thread.

Of course, Palestine is not central to all our struggles for justice nor do the same companies who build the separation wall on our southern border build Israel's fences. Finally our gov't has not pledged $30 bil in military aid to Israel but why let actual facts get in the way of your hate, eh Barb?

Of course you know that if one of us is enslaved or subject to repression, NONE of us are free, that the policies of Israel's hawks actually make all (many of whom do disagree, if much more quietly now that the iffin yer not FOR us yer agin us crowd took over) Israeli citizens less free, and that we DO fund their state sanctioned terror. Stating the truth is not hate, little boy. Allowing horrible crimes against humanity without so much as a word is to allow hate. Advocating for such actions is TO hate. Hater.

My point remains unchallenged: Belafonte's conclusion, which you approved, was based on the 3 fallacies mentioned above. In other words, his conclusion was flawed.
As for your new claim. blaming Israel for the plight of those hapless Gazans, PA President Abbas has a more honest appraisal:

“It was possible for us to avoid all of that, 2,000 martyrs, 10,000 injured, 50,000 houses (destroyed),” Abbas told Palestine TV in remarks broadcast Friday. He said Hamas had insisted on discussing demands first before ending the war, which only served to prolong the violence needlessly.
