The OP title has instigated a barrage of what looks like much ado about nothing, unfortunately mostly from the left. I don't see convincing evidence for a lie here or anywhere I've looked. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if Carson was guaranteed by someone admission to West Point with his ROTC record and his overall academic achievement. As I understand it appointment to West Point has traditionally often been a politicized accomplishment and a perk open to someone with an influential patron or patrons. As has been repeated ad infinitum he never claimed to have applied and been accepted. The way he tells it the offer seems to have come informally via Westmoreland. I think I'll give his 50 yr. old possible memory lapse a pass, maybe he did meet the General in Feb. and not on memorial day. And besides I'd just as soon Carson came through the primaries as the winner. In my judgement he'll be the easiest of the bunch for any Democrat to overwhelmingly defeat in the general. There's lots of other real negatives in his baggage to exploit. It's not worth wasting energy on this one particular iffy "lie".
