Progressives Killed Eric Garner

Cigarette Taxes on the Increase in Texas
“Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) has signed legislation to increase the state's cigarette tax by $1 per pack effective January 1, 2007. The tax is currently 41 cents per pack.

He damned near quadrupled cigarette taxes!

Oops...
NYCs is like 4 times that amount.
Oops.
You own words were that cigarette taxes are "a favored progressive cause".

Oops...

Eric Garner DID commit suicide.by failing to comply with the commands of the NYPD officers on the scene.

So, a police officer uses excessive force to investigate a meaninglessly minor offense, and it's the victim's fault that he died?

Statist fucks like you are what's destroying this country.

I wonder how the right wing loons would feel if he was trying to carry a gun into a gun free zone and was choked then died...

Eric Garner DID commit suicide.by failing to comply with the commands of the NYPD officers on the scene. At that point any negative outcome was his own fault.

I say this as an individual who truly expects to see his life end at the hands of LEOs, but when you resist an officer or fail to comply with commands, you have to expect the worst response (for you) possible.

The choke hold is clearly against NYPD policy, the officer in question should be fired.
It was not a choke hold. That is what the media refers it to....and progressives jumped on it.

A choke hold is when you hold someone to the point where they can not breathe.

The man continually said "I cant breathe"....

If one cant breathe, one can not say they cant breathe....thus the reason for the universal sign of choking...it is the only way a choking person can say they are choking.

Garner could not give the universal sign for choking since he was not upright. Also, his hands were being held and he was pinned.

If you listen to him saying, "I can't breathe", he says it more and more weakly until he stops and expires.
Well except he did not die there he died several hours later of a HEART ATTACK at the hospital.

His death was ruled a HOMICIDE by the medical examiner, due to COMPRESSION OF THE NECK.

Now, NY has raised taxes on cigarettes, a favored progressive cause

Raising the cigarette tax is a favored progressive cause, eh?

Jindal tax plan would raise state sales tax rate to 5.88 percent

Part of Jindal's tax plan:
The proposal also calls for increasing the state's cigarette tax from 36 cents to $1.41 per pack.

Moving on to that bastion of Liberalism, the socialist state of Arizona:

Indeed, it's no surprise that the public in Arizona would favor a cigarette tax increase above all else. On at least two prior occasions (Prop 200 in 1994 and Prop 303 in 2002), Arizona voters approved increases in the state's cigarette tax.

This time, however, voters would not only be approving an increase in the state cigarette tax (from the current rate of $1.18 per pack to a new rate of $1.98 per pack) as well as increases in other tobacco products, but they would also approve the creation of a special "board" that would determine how the funds generated (~$150 million per year) would be spent. This board would be appointed by the governor and approved by the legislature.

Arizona is Hooked on Cigarette Tax Revenue Tax Foundation
And more and more Arizonan's go buy them at the reservation smoke shops that don't charge state tax. That's the point of the OP. When you tax at a ridiculous rate someone will find a way around it. And in this case you get police officers enforcing laws the a-hole politicians made up and a person dies in the process of making sure the state gets their precious dollar of revenue.

Indeed they are. NOthing you've posted has disproven that. The opposite. You have yet to post one example of a red state with cig taxes as high as NYC. Go ahead. We'll wait.

Gun Free Zones = Places with lots of pigeons for criminals to attack.

It's true.
What was the "root cause" of police approaching Garner? He was illegally selling untaxed cigarettes.
Now, NY has raised taxes on cigarettes, a favored progressive cause, to unbelievable levels. And of course that invites activity to skirt the tax in any way. The simplest is to load up a van in NC, where the tax is low, drive the cigs to NY, where the tax is high, and sell them. They are like arbitragers.
Garner was simply responding to incentives put out by progressives and their insane tax policies and selling cigs to earn a living. But the result was an unforutnate encounter and his death. Better tax policies in NY would have left this man alive.

I believe you killed him.......makes as much sense.
Was I on the scene? Did I institute a tax that invited non compliance?
No and no.
You fail. Again.

It makes as much sense as your OP.

You clearly don't understand the OP.

The point is more government is enforced with more police. If you want the government to control everything they have an enforcement wing to accomplish all of this government force and interference it's called the police. The police are charged with doing the governments bidding yet you bitch when in the process of doing so someone dies. Let me fill you in on a little something. Every single encounter you have with the police has the potential to end up with you dead. Depending upon your actions, your response to them, your attitude and the officers mood or attitude. When you favor a government making laws as stupid and ticky tack as making selling single cigarettes a crime you at the same time give the police the power of going in to enforce that law.

I mean laws against anything that are enforced by the police and with the force that comes with them having the law on their side.

If you have laws you don't agree with it isn't the cops fault for enforcing it, it's the politicians fault that you voted for to make these laws.

A law is a law right? We are a country of laws and we need people that will enforce those laws right? You seem to think it now becomes the responsibilty of those hired to enforce those laws to become the jusry in how and when they will enforce those laws. Put the blame where it belongs. It isn't the enforcer's problem it's the people that made the law in the first place. If it wasn't against the law to sell single smokes the law would have no reason to even interact with this guy.

This guy died for nothing more than government greed. If the government didn't insist anyone selling outside their ability to collect taxes was criminal the police would have no power to arrest him.

What laws are there that don't have one of two things for you to be in compliance outside of the ten commandments? Either a fee or a tax.

The war you are looking for is actually the government.

If you had been he probably would have opted for suicide rather than be subjected to one of your boring lectures.

if his lectures are so boring that they inspire suicide, then why are you voluntarily reading them and how are you still alive?
