The fatal flaw in your thinking is believing Democrats are trying to make only blacks into government dependents.

Democrats are trying to make EVERYONE into government dependents.

Democrats are not treating blacks any differently than they treat their other voters.

Republicans, on the other hand, are incredibly divisive. They broadcast in no uncertain terms their distaste not only toward blacks, but toward gays, Muslims, Mexicans, and all other non-WASPs as well.

Blacks might be treated like helpless children by Democrats, but they are not going to switch to a party which so clearly hates them.

Right here on the USMB there are endless threads from popular right wingers who go on and on about blacks being inferior or being "plantation blacks" without integrity because all they want is "free stuff" completely ignoring the fact that blacks make up an important part of the Democratic Party coalition. They just can't give blacks credit for anything.

The country is still suffering from the effects of Republican economic and foreign policy and right wingers are desperately trying to pin those failures on President Obama?

Then there are the endless insults publicly towards this president. Uppity? Tar baby? Hitler (I mean, come on. Hitler?)?

Then there is right wing hero Bundy. Blacks were better off as slaves.

Clearly Republicans don't want blacks. Not after all that.

No vote is gone forever. You gotta win their votes back. Blacks voted GOP until the Great Mississippi Flood in the 1920's. The GOP really shit on them and in the 60's the GOP used the southern strategy to win over the poor white vote. Probably. However, the number of Conservative African Americans is growing. But yes, i would say overall, the Republican Party has lost the African American vote forever. But i don't think it matters. They've won many many Elections without it. Now it's all about capturing the Hispanic Vote. Unfortunately, African Americans will be left in the dust again. Hispanics are rapidly moving past them on the economic ladder. They're gaining power & influence. This massive influx of Illegals is going to hurt them the most. After reading on this forum for a couple years I've come to the conclusion that most right wingers learn about how things work in this country from the internet, fox news, and right wing radio. They should ask themselves sometime "where did rush limbaugh get all his info about women, children, and black people". Surely not first hand experience. Bill O'reilly went to a restaurant owned by and patronized by blacks and he was really surprised. "They actually have good food, act normal, not overly loud, and they even use silverware and napkins." Not his exact words but he really did display his ignorance about the world he lives in.
