You should look at history. Reagan tripled the debt. Clinton got us a balanced budget. Bush drastically increased deficits. Obama had huge deficits during recession and they declined. Trump has given us huge deficits during a strong economy. Your belief has 0 backing....

Clinton benefited from the .com boom. Bush went to that stupid war and he benefited* from the .com crash. Obama spent a lot to get us out of a recession. He also had the sequester and gave us the ACA. He never attacked entitlements but made himself a multi millionaire.

Since republicans have thrown out fiscal responsibility I'm really curious what people say now. I think everyone should be for balanced budgets and decreasing debt. If you are for small government the reason is obvious. If you are a liberal you should hate all the tax dollars that are going for interest rather than your programs.

Of course liberals are for fiscal responsibility. Democrats are known as the party of "tax and spend", but notice that they "tax" before they spend, in order to fund the spending.

The last time I saw fiscal responsibility was under Bill Clinton, working with the contract for America Republican. The economy still grew at acceptable rates. It went out the window with Baby Bush and strike down of balanced budget amendment. Now we spend like drunken sailors in port. Could slightly understand under Obama, applying Keynesian solutions to crash resulting from lack of regulation and supply side economics, but do not understand why it continues.

It would seem that those "corporations" that get HUGE government contracts would be difficult to convince that they are not using their money how they deem appropriate.
I do, however, find it a very sane and plausible action.
But knowing how those companies use the Government; watch their lobbyists and where the money comes from and goes. Which brings up another point....Citizens United needs to go.
Yes... we should be fiscally responsible... but not at the expense of worthwhile domestic programs.

1. cut foreign aid to the bare bone
2. right-size the military and use it far more sparingly
3. revise tax law to force corporations and the rich to pay some sensible minimum tax regardless of deductibles
4. establish 'tiger teams' in each government agency to hyper-aggressively hunt down and eliminate government waste
5. restructure the nation's debt through multiple techniques ( interest freezing, renegotiation, defaults, deferments, etc. )
6. let the States fend more for themselves in a number of focal areas presently straining the national treasury

Not exactly all-encompassing or entirely realistic or easy but we're in a 'bad place' and something 'radical' may be required...

The trick would be to do something 'radical' without doing harm to those amongst us who need help the most...

But it should be. My insurance is very good but doesn’t cove LASIK. So lasik is free markets driven and prices have declined substantially as more doctors offer the service and market forces naturally lowered prices. Need to get administrative agents out of there and just let doctors and patients determine costs.

I know many people who work at the EPA and other such locales and make well into six figures while sitting at home in their pajamas. Would never happen in a private company. Accountability matters.

Your argument maybe valid, but it is not pragmatic. The Plutocrats are not nobility, but they sure as hell act like they are.
I make significantly more than $137k. I do Not see myself as nobility. I would rather keep the $$ and give to charities of my choice like the ASPCA. Instead of those gaming the system.

I too have an annual income over the $137k mark, of course mine is in my retirement check. However, I do receive a SS Check too.
