So, France is Scrapping its 75% Tax Rate

Taxing some people at 75% did not work out to well shocking.
It's worked fine, even here at times, but 50% will do nicely.

In NYC if we get 50% Federal tax on top of State and local and sales tax....
I don't think that will do nicely...not one bit.
But then again I'm not a Lib.
You also won't be asked to pay them. , or 99% of people you know, just the bloated 1%.
BTW, it never happened. Courts said 66% was the limit, and it was changed to be a tax on companies that paid salaries higher than $1.6 million salaries. Raised $200 million dollars. But go nuts, dupes.
The courts set tax rates in France? No wonder they sock ray blu.
They set some limits when asked.
Can you imagine them doing that in the US? "Hey, Supreme Court! What's a good tax rate?"

It would negate the entire checks and balances idea.
It could happen, couldn't it?

The day that the Supreme Court makes laws, including tax laws, is the day we can kiss the whole thing goodbye.

I guess some think that government gives us the heavens and earth too.

Heaven and Earth brought themselves into existence by themselves, they didn't need to be taxed into existence :D
Did you know that after 30 years of Reaganism, EVERYONE is paying about 21% in all taxes and frees, as fed cuts are made up in state and local taxes and fees, paid mainly by the nonrich? And the country's infrastucture and society is falling apart? Any ideas lol?

Our courts can also protect the country from a ridiculous tax rate, just like France's courts did.

I guess. But if they capped corporate tax rates at 66% for certain companies, political considerations aside, France is pretty fucked.

Taxes bring government services, not civilization.

Civilization is brought about by people.

I guess some think that government gives us the heavens and earth too.
Under Reaganist tax rates and policy it gives us poverty and injustice, a threat to our civilization. Not covered on the Pub Propaganda Machine. see sig pp1

ALL COMPANIES, or ALL individuals. France is just fine, except when Pubs wreck the world economy.

Maybe I misread your post. I thought it only applied to companies with a payroll of....what was it, $1.6 million?

Still, that 66% is tax only, it doesn't include all the rest of the costs of doing business. So let's say you ran a very successful business that made $100 million dollars a year. Right off the top you would owe the government $66 million. Yikes.

Apparently, they didn't think they were.

So France is Scrapping its 75 Tax Rate RedState

France is providing us with a very good case study on what happens when you raise taxes too high. The 75% tax rate imposed upon the richest French residents* was a centerpiece of Socialist Francois Hollande’s campaign for the French Presidency. At any rate, having found out just what happens when you raise taxes to such draconian levels, the country is now quietly scrapping it.

Sacre Blue !!!

The top US rate is nowhere near 75%.

Even if it was, like the top corporate rate, no one would be paying it.

The rich do not pay the most taxes they pay ALL the taxes

Not sure but if you are a high income earner in a high tax state your total tax bill might run closer to that figure.
But anyway, high taxes never produce prosperity. Never.

No, the individual rate of 75% the courts said too high, 66% limit, so the gov't taxed companies paying salaries of more than 1.6 million dollars or so. Got 200 million altogether in taxes. BFD.

NOT. And higher taxes on our bloated rich NOW would be an exception. With some tax cuts on the beleaguered nonrich, with investment in infrastructure jobs and training for 3 million good tech jobs. The economy is crying out for it in fact, GOP nutballs.

My example was at the 66% rate.

Yes.

My family and I were deciding whether we should go to Germany or France next year for vacation. We decided to go to Germany. I like France, but I'm not convinced the French won't go on strike and screw up my vacation. So we're going to Germany.

Today, one out of four French university graduates wants to emigrate, “and this rises to 80 per cent or 90 per cent in the case of marketable degrees”, says economics professor Jacques Régniez, who teaches at both the Sorbonne and the University of New York in Prague. “In one of my finance seminars, every single French student intends to go abroad.”

When are the French NOT going on strike.
