Something the gop has forgotten

Well then, the progressives and Democratic party has failed. I'm sure you'll try and blame BOOOSH!, after all he is the most evil and most powerful POTUS of all time, and yet, this is after 4 solid years of OBAMA'S REGIME. A thinking person would wonder where the Democrats have gone wrong.

I sure am...

Shrinking Middle Class

Retailers experience a shrinking middle*class
Hey, dumb dumb, in the past both the republican and Democratic parties worked for ALL Americans. Richard Nixon gave this country the EPA which protects and benefits all Americans. Exactly what has the gop given this country lately besides wars and a failed economy. As far as I am concerned the gop is for NOTHING but they are against equal pay for equal work, woman's rights, increases in the minimum wage, healthcare for all Americans, a sound immigration policy, helping the needy, and pretty much anything else that does not benefit the 1%.
Maybe you could give me a list of some of the things the gop is for that will benefit all Americans.

The Bill of Rights and the Constitution.
This shows how screwed up and out of touch you are. The purpose of the Bill of Rights was to give people the same rights. What has been the gop position on equal pay for equal work? What has been the republican position on a woman's right to control her body? What has been the gop's position on gays and gay marriage? What has been the gop's position on voting rights? You wave the Constitution and Bill of Rights around like a club when it suits your purpose but if it says something you do not wish to hear or follow it immediately is forgotten.
That said, what has the gop done in the last 40 years that has been of benefit to ALL AMERICANS?

You know what scares the shit out of me about the OP? Is that he actually believes government can make our lives better.

Hell's bells on a good day they can't even fix the potholes in my highways let alone fix the economy.

We are surrounded by morons who actually believe that fools like Harry Reid or Mitch McCionnell can work magic from Washington.

You left the GOP because you are a selfish asshole, and the GOP didn't support your ambition to make your life easier at the expense of everyone else?
Exactly.
I left the gop because it no longer has concerns about what is best for America and its citizens. It's only concern is about what is best for the gop. Apparently you people have lost sight of the message of your founder, Abraham Lincoln. He believed in " ... a government of the people, by the people, and FOR THE PEOPLE...."
I have absolutely no doubt that if Lincoln were alive today he would renounce the republican party and become either an independent or Democrat. As would Barry Goldwater, Bob Dole, Dwight Eisenhower, and almost all past leaders of the party. They would all ask the same question: What the hell went wrong? And you would answer, "Nothing."

The Problem with the republican party is they hate government at all cost. Some of these people want to go back pre-constitution when the states had all the power and grant the corporation all the power over our lives.

Those leaders believed in America and invested in it.

NO. :eusa_hand: The Bill Of Rights was to codify what was outlined in The Declaration as Recognized GOD-GIVEN rights that the Government could NOT IMPEDE. Seems to me that YOU have fallen for the class warfare bullshit.

Im out of touch? do you even know what is in the Bill of Rights and the Constitution? Ill give you a hint. It doesn't mention abortion. It doesn't mention marriage, gay or otherwise. It doesn't mention pay.

As for voting rights, it was the GOP who pushed forward the voting rights act. If they hadn't do you think Johnson would have signed it? Especially considering he lead the fillibuster against it during the Eisenhower administration?

It's also the GOP who is pushing for voter IDs which protects the integrity of the voting system. I know you progressives are eager to protect the rights of the dead to vote, but they don't have voting rights. Nor do non-citizens.

Every vote against Obama's program benefits all americans. People are going broke, out of work, and unable to get health care because Obamacare. And you act like it helps people.

You say you care about people and then support policies doing the exact opposite of what you say you want to do. And we are the ones out of touch?

Do you think your good intentions are going to matter a hill of beans if you continue to hurt people in the name of helping them? Who cares if you want to help them if they end up suffering because of your help?

If you are going to oppose freedom for more government programs, we dont want you.
Keep kicking people out of the party avatar. Also, keep asking why more and more people are voting Democratic.
It is exactly your kind of thinking that is killing the gop.

actually, it's starting to sound (as in rhetoric not action) that the GOP is finding it's principles again instead of succumbing to socialist lite. it's about time too. Should they actually stand by those principles steadfast, I'll actually consider standing with them. Even though i have my own ideological differences with the conservative republican brand. It's a shit ton better than pure socialist insanity. Which is destroying the nation.
My, how wonderfully thoughtful. The "... GOP is finding it's principles...." Do you also realize that it is losing members like a leaky bucket. The party of the "Big Tent" which once existed is becoming the party of the "Pup Tent." Keep on finding those principle you were looking for. By the way, did you even bother to look at Eisenhower's gop platform? As I recall the republican party was very popular during Eisenhower's administration. Do you think that there might have been a relationship between that platform and the people who approved of the republican party. I do. The more you have switched positions on that platform, the more people are leaving your party. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Who cares if you want to help them if they end up suffering because of your help?
Hummmmm ..... Something to think about. Hummmm.... So, are you saying that if I want to help someone and they end up suffering because of my help I should do nothing. That is the kind of government ".... for the people ...." that you want. A government that turns its back on its citizens. In other words, you don't think a government should "... promote the general welfare, ....?" Oh, by the way, that last quote is from the Constitution.

The more I read your posts the more I believe you are a man without a party.

You seem to be a genuine Liberal.

But the Party you want to belong to no longer exists.

You are fighting for an ideal that the current Dems want you to believe they too are fighting for. They want your support all the while knowing you are not seeing them for what they truly are.

That was Obama's secret to victory.

If everyone knew what he really believed in he would have lost.

Just like if everyone really understood what Obamacare was all about it would have never gotten out of Congress.

More and more people are withdrawing their support of this administration every day as they learn, belatedly, the truth about who they supported these past 6 years.

Maybe your day will come tomorrow.

Until then I will not bash you because I see you are a sincere guy genuinely striving to find the truth.

:)

.

I've never voted for a party that I thought would make my life better.

.
Then why the hell do you even bother to vote? If one party promises you nothing but a miserable life and a second party promises to work toward improving your life, why in the name of God would you vote for the party that wants to make your life harder?
If you are on the borderline of poverty and a party announces it is going to cut you food stamps and help push you into poverty WHY WOULD YOU VOTE FOR THEM?

I know, you really don't get it.

I vote for who I think would take the country as a whole in a better direction. To vote for what they're just going to do for ME seems lazy and selfish. Besides, it's not their responsibility. It's MY responsibility. You do know that, right?

It's clear that you have decided which party is right and good and which party is wrong and bad. It's pretty tough to believe you were ever a Republican, since you so naturally look for a political party to somehow help you.

Here is a summary of Hillsdale College's free online course called Constitution 101.

Even if you choose not to take the course I hope you will, nonetheless, read this summary and/or watch this brief video by Hillsdale President Larry Arnn:
And I get it now that the larger type size may be helpful for reading, so for this post I will adopt the size you seem comfortable with.

Lecture Summary

American political history is defined by three great crises. The first crisis was the American Revolution, which was declared on July 4, 1776 but whose roots can be traced back at least to 1763. That period of crisis ended with the election of Thomas Jefferson as president in what has become known as the “Revolution of 1800.”

The second crisis was the crisis over slavery that culminated in the Civil War. While the Founders had opposed slavery in principle, but had been forced to compromise with the institution in practice for the sake of the Union, the rise of the “positive good” school of slavery in the South marked a turn away from the Founders’ principles, and their practice. In response, Abraham Lincoln explained and defended the Founder’s approach.

The third great crisis, which continues today, is the challenge of Progressivism, a movement founded by Woodrow Wilson, Theodore Roosevelt, and others. The Progressives rejected the Founders’ principles, including their notions of a fixed human nature and inalienable natural rights. Instead, they believed in a human nature that evolved and changed, which in turn justified their efforts to break down separation of powers in order to expand the size and scope of government far beyond the Founders’ intent.

In order to understand fully the previous crises, and to be able to respond well to the current crisis, we must understand the causes of America.

America has four causes—a material cause: primarily the land and the people; an efficient cause: the Founding Founders who led the Revolution in the name of the American people; a formal cause: the Constitution, especially the structure of government it establishes; and a final cause: the principles of free government outlined in the Declaration of Independence.

With this background, we can answer the question: Was the American Founding revolutionary or conservative? In fact it was both: It sought to conserve the oldest and highest law, which according to the Declaration of Independence is “the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God.” The Founders compared the natural law to the conventional law under which they lived, and—as described so eloquently and succinctly in the Declaration of Independence—determined that a revolution was justified in the name of this higher law.

Why can't government make your life better?

Where do you live?

Right now in Manitoba Canada. But I've lived in Tennessee for many years when my husband was at Saturn and in all probability moving to Florida in the next few years.

Now your question Why can't government make your life better? I believe government when working properly benefits all of us as a whole. BUT I don't expect my government to make my life better.

And I certainly don't expect nor want any government to "rule me". And a real biggie. I don't want my government that I elected to spend its time looking after other countries and not my own.

They just hate government and investment in America that has worked for the past century.

This is all these idiots think about.

That's not true of all conservatives. We just believe our tax dollars really need to be spent more wisely.

Consider the Ukraine and the fact that both Washington and Ottawa are now going to be shipping our tax dollars to the Ukraine.

What home grown research projects could the billion Congress just authorized for the Ukraine have funded?

How many times are we told "we don't have the money for this, we don't have the money for that" but then out of the blue an unelected government in Kiev gets a billion dollars from America?

Hell's bells I'm freaking out that we're giving them 223 million dollars. As you know I'm big into water conservation. The Ukraine is getting this money. But a huge research project just north of me is going to have funding cut.

This is what gets me spitting bullets.

ETA: Check this out. Here's where they let go employees and cut back on research saving 79 million but some how they can find 223 million for the Ukraine. It makes me want to bazooka barf. AND my conservatives are the idiots doing this.

The decision to close the facility was announced along with 400 job cuts at Fisheries and Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard intended to save a total of $79.3 million. The ELA cuts will affect 13 full-time staff at the Freshwater Institute in Winnipeg, but the site also supported seasonal work by up to 50 other scientists who used it for research.

But government has made your life better. You are too blind to see it and too ignorant to question the crap you are being fed.
Do you buy food at the supermarket? Is it safe? A lot of food now comes in from Mexico and other places. How do you know it is safe?
Is your water safe? How do you know?
What about the air? Do you breathe? Who monitors the air and works to keep it safe to breathe? Do you think the power plants and other polluters would give a shit if they weren't forced to give a shit?
Ever fly somewhere? Is the plane in good repair? How do you know? Is the pilot well trained? Again, how do you know?
Do you worry about bombs or terrorists on the planes?
Do you realize control towers are monitoring your plane the entire time it is US air space? Yup, you're being watched.
The medicines you take, are they safe? Who makes sure there safe or effective? In the past they sold morphine and heroin over the counter like cough drops or candy bars. I wonder who stopped that?
Ever drive on the FEDERAL freeways? Who put them there?
Did you know that according to federal regs bus drivers and over the road truckers can only drive so many hours before they have to rest. There used to be a lot of crashes because bus and truck drivers drove long hours and fell asleep while driving. That doesn't happen much today.
Ever go to a National Park?
Did you ever see any footage about FEMA coming to the rescue of people who were overwhelmed by national disasters?
Did you know that in the past sick animals (called 'downers') in packinghouses were butchered and sold to the public regardless of whether they had TB, cancer, or some other disease. Doesn't happen today. We have federal inspection of all meat. They can't even put sawdust in the ground beef like the once did.
Do you get packages in the mail? How about letters?
Ever wonder why there have been no major flu outbreaks in the US in the last 90+ years or so? Back in 1917 a flu hit the world and the US so hard that in some cites in the US they had to bury the people in mass graves because they were dying so fast. World wide between 20 to 40 million people died from the flu. That was more than the number who died from the Black Plague or in WW1. Haven't had a big flu lately. I wonder why.
Do you listen to the weather reports?
Those are just some of the more obvious cases where the federal government steps it to make your life better. Perhaps you should open your eyes.

I pay them to do all of the above with my taxes as do others. It's their job. What's your point?

They aren't doing this out of the goodness of their hearts. We elect them. We employ them. I expect them to do their jobs.

Government isn't a gift from the heavens standing on a hilltop looking down on us poor peasants that they need to help and provide for.

For crying out loud they are elected servants of the people. Not the other way around where we should fall to our knees and be oh so grateful that they "look after us".

Right here is where you get it so freaking wrong.

Those are just some of the more obvious cases where the federal government steps it to make your life better. Perhaps you should open your eyes.

It's their job. I'm not a charity. They are my employees. You really have it ass backwards.

I left the gop because it has forgotten a very basic and important rule. That rule is that people (republican excluded) will vote for the candidate and party that makes their life better. They will not vote for a candidate or party that makes their life worse. Doing so would be stupidity in the extreme. The gop has forgotten this and believe that making peoples lives harder and more difficult is a winning plan.
If you are on the edge of poverty and fighting to survive each day are you going to vote for a candidate or party that wants to cut food stamps or welfare. And yes, you should get a job but what if that job is minimum wage. Or what if no jobs are available? Are you going to vote for the candidate who is against jobs bills and raising minimum wage? Are you going to vote for a candidate who wants to make sure you are denied medical care? The bottom line is you will vote for the candidate and party that makes your life better.
Just for the hell of it I have posted a segment of the republican party platform from the Eisenhower years. Think of what the republican party was for then and what it is for now.
"We shall continue vigorously to support the United Nations."

"Continuance of the vigorous SEC policies which are providing maximum protection to the investor and maximum opportunity for the financing of small business without costly red tape."

"The record of performance of the Republican Administration on behalf of our working men and women goes still further. The Federal minimum wage has been raised for more than 2 million workers. Social Security has been extended to an additional 10 million workers and the benefits raised for 6 1/2 million."

"All workers have gained and unions have grown in strength and responsibility, and have increased their membership by 2 millions."

"Assure equal pay for equal work regardless of Sex;"

"We recommend to Congress the submission of a constitutional amendment providing equal rights for men and women."

"We shall continue to seek extension and perfection of a sound social security system."

The republican party of today is against almost EVERY ONE of these positions. Is it any wonder only about 25% of Americans consider themselves republicans. Oh, and I should point out that number is getting smaller.

:welcome: ron, you are the 537 douche bag to post his "I used to be a republican" bullshit.

A bit early to be a fucking moron for this election cycle, dontcha think?
