The scandals are falling apart

A friend of mine used to be an attorney for the IRS. He has an advanced law degree in taxation from an Ivy League law school and worked for many years within the IRS think tank. I couldn't wait to ask him about this and this is what he said: There is no scandal, there was no wrong doing. There was an inordinate and disproportionate number of applications for 501(c)(4) applications by conservative groups, (who were very unhappy about Obama's win) as opposed to liberal/progressive groups, (who were happy with Obama's win and didn't feel the need to organize).

The IRS is obligated to investigate an application for a 501(c)(4) to insure that it is not politically motivated. They do that with every application since these organizations are seeking non-profit status.

just wondering...

Who was that how resigned from the IRD and why?
What was the name of the president who apologized for the harassment?

if there was "nothing wrong" with what when down....no one would have resigned and no one would have apologized.

Not necessarily. This is just another power grab between parties, according to my friend. And it all makes sense. The spur behind these "scandals" could very well be due to Hillary Clinton's making big headlines in the news a few weeks ago for doing.... nothing. And the speculation about her 2016 run. And her stratospheric poll numbers are making the GOP nervous.

So Benghazi, the DOJ seizure of AP phone records (all perfectly legal under the Patriot Act since it was essentially driven by suspicion of a leak to Al-Qaida) and now this baloney about the IRS. Politicians on both sides don't want to do anything except keep their seats in the next election. And keep the money rolling in from special interests to maintain the gridlock. So heads, like the ones belonging to the three IRS managers, are going to be sacrificed without a blink of an eye.

Ah, Sparky? The IRS and the Obama White House have already admitted there was wrong doing at the IRS. Your "friend" is about as clueless about what's happening at his old job as Eric Holder is at his present job...just saying....

The scandals are falling apart

Things go wrong in government. Sometimes it’s just bad luck. Sometimes it’s rank incompetence. Sometimes it’s criminal wrongdoing. Most of the time you never hear about it. Or, if you do hear about it, the media eventually gets bored talking about it (see warming, global).

But every so often an instance of government wrongdoing sprouts wings and becomes something quite exciting: A political scandal.

The crucial ingredient for a scandal is the prospect of high-level White House involvement and wide political repercussions. Government wrongdoing is boring. Scandals can bring down presidents, decide elections and revive down-and-out political parties. Scandals can dominate American politics for months at a time.

On Tuesday, it looked like we had three possible political scandals brewing. Two days later, with much more evidence available, it doesn’t look like any of them will pan out. There’ll be more hearings, and more bad press for the Obama administration, and more demands for documents. But — and this is a key qualification — absent more revelations, the scandals that could reach high don’t seem to include any real wrongdoing, whereas the ones that include real wrongdoing don’t reach high enough. Let’s go through them.

1) The Internal Revenue Service: The IRS mess was, well, a mess. But it’s not a mess that implicates the White House, or even senior IRS leadership. If we believe the agency inspector general’s report, a group of employees in a division called the “Determinations Unit” — sounds sinister, doesn’t it? — started giving tea party groups extra scrutiny, were told by agency leadership to knock it off, started doing it again, and then were reined in a second time and told that any further changes to the screening criteria needed to be approved at the highest levels of the agency.

The White House fired the acting director of the agency on the theory that somebody had to be fired and he was about the only guy they had the power to fire. They’re also instructing the IRS to implement each and every one of the IG’s recommendations to make sure this never happens again.
If new information emerges showing a connection between the Determination Unit’s decisions and the Obama campaign, or the Obama administration, it would crack this White House wide open. That would be a genuine scandal. But the IG report says that there’s no evidence of that. And so it’s hard to see where this one goes from here.
Click the link for Benghazi and AP

Absolutely,

When you consider it, the administration of President Obama is getting a taste of scandal it has largely avoided. The IRS and AP are black eyes on the administration; lets not kid ourselves. Obama is responsible--his Presidency--his fault.

Nothing new there.

Did he also mention that progressive organizations have been and are being targeted? Like the NAACP, Greenpeace and many more.

In my 'good to be a Dem' thread, I wrote that the rw's will keep chewing on this just as they have Benghazi. Long after they KNOW "there is no THERE there", they will keep pretending there is.

And, of course, the usual scum - fux, beck, limbaugh, dredge - will do all they can to keep throwing gas on the fire.

Meanwhile, the Republicans are still doing nothing and getting paid big bucks to do it. And, the rw's love it that way.

All because there's an uppity nigra in the White House.

The Right has never gotten it right about President Obama for 6 years. There's no reason to believe they will get this right.

The IRS scandal can't be pinned on Obama, and ironically, the IRS scandal is smothering the Benghazi fake scandal that the inmates were obsessing over.

Oh, they got it right but the left just don't care. :eusa_whistle:

"Can't be pinned on Obama"?

Did Obama approve the IRS management team that hired the underlings?
If so would Obama EVER hire someone that would KNOWING what Obama's philosophy was execute their duties contrary to what Obama wanted?
In the real world CEOs hire people they can trust to execute the CEO's plans. The Agenda of the CEOs are clearly defined.
Is Obama NOT the CEO of the USA and hence responsible for the people at the IRS?
While Obama is not required to know every last detail of every job in the government there is a theme..a hiring model that Obama either had and followed OR
he is a totally inept CEO that should if in the real world be fired!

"Pinning scandals" on Obama isn't the issue. The entire mind set. The entire agenda of Obama dictates people that work for him be like minded!
If these people after meeting Obama come away with the mind set "conservatives are the enemy".. we must NOT let conservatives have any power.. and this is a
well known Obama mind set... then his underlings are doing what Obama wants!

‘Pin’ it on Obama if you want to, you’re entitled to your opinion about the president.

But if by ‘pinned’ you’re implying grounds for ‘impeachment,’ then in that case you’re factually wrong, regardless your subjective opinion.

So the IRS and the President are apologizing for the IRS wrong doing. But their isn't any? Man Democrats are getting dumber.

Well, this has been one big failed effort by Republicans. What are they going to do now to stop the Hillary machine in 2016, and to keep from losing the House by then? Maybe they should actually try doing something constructive rather than just being destructive.

Do you REALLY not grasp the concept of how destructive it is if ANY political party in power starts using the IRS to target their opponents or tries to keep the press from doing it's job with things like illegal wire taps? This isn't simply a partisan issue...it would be equally as bad a precedent if the GOP was doing it and and it should be treated the same.

I'm sorry, Auditor but after watching Barry sidestep the question in his presser this afternoon...did anyone in the White House know about what was going on over at the IRS prior to the IG report?...I'm now convinced that they did indeed know that conservatives were being targeted. This could conceivably get VERY ugly.

Classic state of liberal denial right here folks. They seem to have dug themselves an even deeper hole by releasing those emails.

I wonder what is in the two days worth of emails they didn't release. When people lie they have something to hide.
