The United States IS a Christian Nation

The United States IS a Christian Nation ... that waterboards.

Jesus would be proud.

Indeed Jesus would be PROUD as concluded concerning His teachings on SELF DEFENSE, "When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are at peace." -- Luke 11:21.

Its clear, the liberals of this nation, purely in a contradictory political ploy are attempting to remove this nations RIGHT TO SELF DEFENSE by subjectively attempting to re-define torture.

They have failed to present one instance where this method of self defense is unjust or uncalled for....in consideration of the facts. 1.) There has never been proven one instance where this interrogation method has caused any PHYSICAL HARM to come to anyone, or resulted in any permanent mental impairment. 2.) such interrogation is always performed under the direct supervision of a qualified medical professional. 3.) The documentation and proof of how this method has prevented several attacks upon US and Allied soil.

The pretension of pompous self righteousness is as transparent as glass....and amusing.

In consideration of this nation being a CHRISTIAN nation. It is as obvious as one's next breath. As we have incorporated into our common Laws, tradition, and social mores' many CHRISTIAN values. In our court of Law, as was the practice for well over 200 years....the first act taken by anyone was the act of placing one's hand on the Christian Holy Scriptures and taking an oath before man and God to present nothing but the truth. We have incorporated into our monetary system, practically from the beginning of this nation a Self professed Proclamation that God watches over the endeavors of this very nation...aka 'Annuit Coeptis'.

The very first legal document drafted and ratified by the Congress of the United States....made an appeal to the Governor of the world....aka God, to consider this nations plight to gain INDEPENDENCE. Also stating a belief in a TRANSCENDING authority that is superior to any man made law that recognizes the UNALIENABLE rights of LIFE and Liberty. There are over 5000 pieces of documented history that proves this nation was founded upon Christian values...as even today the state constitutions that ARE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICAN recognize GOD in one fashion or another.

So......you think that torture does nothing to a person other than make them feel bad for a little while? Might want to check a scientist on this.......

Background: Refugees and asylum seekers continue to enter the United States and the European Union in record numbers. Some have estimated that between 5-35% of all refugees have suffered torture in their countries of origin. Although general practitioners and specialized physicians are likely to encounter victims of torture as patients, few providers are familiar with the health problems that may affect this patient population.

Purpose: To provide neurologists, neurosurgeons, and rehabilitation medicine physicians with basic knowledge about survivors of torture that can help in the diagnosis, treatment, and referral of such patients.

Methods: A MEDLINE (1966-October 2001) search using keywords torture and sequelae (nervous system diseases and brain injuries) was conducted. Other data sources included books, reference lists, online resources and expert opinion.

Findings: Forms of torture that may affect the nervous system include beatings, gunshot wounds, stab wounds, asphyxiation, prolonged suspension and electrocution. Victims of torture commonly experience neurological symptoms such as headaches, vertigo, loss of consciousness and dizziness during and after torture. A successful and meaningful clinical interaction with a survivor of torture includes avoiding retraumatization, building trust, spelling out any limits on confidentiality, and above anything else, establishing empathy with the patient.

Conclusions: Neurological sequelae of torture can be devastating physically and psychologically. The treatment of these neurological conditions does not differ from other patient populations. However, the clinical approach is unique and must focus on avoiding retraumatization and helping the victim reintegrate into society as quickly as possible.

Study: CIA torture tactics cause brain damage
Tue, 22 Sep 2009 11:55:08 GMT
Recent studies of harsh interrogations in CIA-run prisons reveal the devastating results of controversial techniques on the minds of detainees.

Prolonged stress from interrogations could have impaired the memories of inmates, diminishing their ability to recall and provide the elaborate information the intelligence agency wanted to elicit, said a scientific paper published in the scientific journal Trends in Cognitive Sciences on Monday.

Investigating Bush-era interrogation techniques from a neurobiological point of view, Shane O'Mara questioned the information obtained by the CIA, saying the methods employed could even have caused the suspects to create an undistinguishable mixture of true and false memories.

"Solid scientific evidence on how repeated and extreme stress and pain affect memory and executive functions (such as planning or forming intentions) suggests these techniques are unlikely to do anything other than the opposite of that intended by coercive or enhanced interrogation," said O'Mara.

The professor at Ireland's Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience based his research on a review of scientific studies about the effect of stress on memory and brain function after reading descriptions of the CIA's interrogation methods described in formerly classified legal memos released in April.

CIA spokesman George Little, dismissed the finding, however, arguing that the agency's interrogation program "produced intelligence on which our government acted to disrupt terrorist operations," and that O'Mara had no direct contact with individuals who underwent the agency's 'high-value detainee program'.

But O'Mara maintains (despite the 'layman's' assumption that such methods do not affect memory) that chronic stress and trauma -- as were likely caused by CIA methods, particularly for long-term prisoners -- can damage the hippocampus, the part of the brain that integrates memory.

Prolonged sleep deprivation, chaining prisoners in painful positions, exploitation of suspects' phobias, and waterboarding are among the techniques allowed for interrogations of terror suspects by the Bush administration.

Those methods cause the brain to release stress hormones, which, if prolonged, could result in compromised brain function and even tissue loss, O'Mara wrote.

He warned that this could bring about brain lobe disorders, making the prisoners vulnerable to confabulation - in this case, the pathological production of false memories upon suggestions by an interrogator.

"The fact that the detrimental effects of these techniques on the brain are not visible to the naked eye makes them no less real," he stressed.

Additionally, if you were to talk to any military interrogator, they would tell you that with some medical care, a bit of chow and a cigarette or two, you can get more out of someone in a couple of days of that, than you can get out of someone in a month of torture.

Incidentally, you do realize that Pol Pot popularized waterboarding? It was his favorite technique to get someone to give a false confession to trumped up charges brought against them by the government.

Try again......epic fail.

A very reliable link you used to support your FALSE PREMISE...no? The link headlined......Torture TACTICS CAUSE BRAIN DAMAGE. Whereas when the link is accessed you do not find any Empirically OBSERVED documentation to support such a CLAIM....what you find in the very FIRST SENTENCE is the very revealing WORD....."COULD", which invalidates the entire long winded political diatribe as PROPAGANDA, nothing more. Typical Saul Alinsky 101, when there is no supportive evidence, PRETEND you have the evidence. There is NO EVIDENCE the United States has engaged in any activity that brings physical or permanent mental harm to any POW.

Indeed BRAIN DAMAGE could be derived by the practice of HOLDING anyone under the water long enough to deprive anyone of O2...."IF" they were held under the water long enough. Where is the evidence that PROVES anyone has received BRAIN DAMAGE by any action engaged in the act of interrogation? "IF" a bullfrog had wings...it would not bump its ass every time it jumped...would it? Now find us that proverbial bullfrog.

just curious....does your incomplete scripture interpret differently than what you implied if you quote the full passage or you still think it means the same thing?

21“When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are safe. 22But when someone stronger attacks and overpowers him, he takes away the armor in which the man trusted and divides up the spoils.

what do you think the latter part means Ralph?

care

or physical armor really doesn't bring safety....but just perceived safety, on a secular sense?

but i was looking more for what its meaning was in a religious sense, or moral sense....?

And how do the Jews factor into this?

That'll be the day when an atheist gets elected prez. Gimme a break!

I can work with the response, the person's opinion. But you are so quick to ASSume without gaining a clear understanding of what someone is stating.

What do you think the type of nation is the United States, with regards to religion?

This is not a Christian nation. The words 'god' and 'Christ' never appear in the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution. Myth believing right wingers always latch onto the word 'Creator' as some proof that this is a Christian nation, never understanding it seems, that the word's definition is open to the reader. I know who I was created by, my parents and I have the DNA to prove it. Who were you created by?

If the Framers had wanted to, they could easily incorporated the Ten Commandmants into the Constitution. They did not. They left out all references to the divine because they were men of the Enlightenment and this government they were creating was to be based in reason not myth.

Those who want to turn this into a Christian nation are working against the intended purpose of the Constitution which was to create a new morality based on reason which can work for all people regardless of which if any religion they believe.

Christianity was not left out of the Constitution. God was not left out of the Constitution.

And, even if God was left out of the Constitution, that does not mean this is not a "Christian Nation". The National Government is not the Nation. The States are the Nation, and an overwhelming majority of the people living in the States are Christian.

It may not always be this way. It has been until now.

Might wanna look into the belief systems and religions of the Founding Fathers before making that kind of blanket statement.
